Lesson #4829 of HELPFUL Posting:

When a topic which has already been discussed, gets posted again:

Do you?

A. Post the link to the previous thread.
B. Proclaim your all knowledgability by saying it's been posted before.
C. Ignore everything.
D. Drink more blue milk.
E. Mention that it's been posted before and comment on the gheyness of the repeat poster.
F. Comment that it's been posted before, but also mention that your too lazy to do a search for the post.
G. Reply that it's been posted before and also mention that your too irresponsible to locate previously said post.
H. Post that this sucks and that you hate this forum.

When encountering someone's lack of forum etiquette do you:

A) Ignore it and simply help out the original poster, thus providing a good example for other forumers.
B) Consider that they possibly may be quite ill and acting out of character and proceed to option A.
C) Draw attention to the mistake by making a post dripping in sarcasm and generally act like a jerk.
D) Simply help out the original poster, and briefly mention to the offender what could be done next time.

You had pretty good odds there, only one option was wrong.

I think this thread was more inquiring if anyone had a copy rather than just posting about its existence again (with the link reposted just so those who missed it the first two times would know what was being discussed), which makes it more appealing to me because I'd love a copy as well.

I used to be very active on this forum. I’m not really anymore. Sometimes, people still want to get in touch with me about something, and that is great! If that describes you, please email me at [my username]ATgmailDOTcom.

Hi everybody. You’re all awesome. Keep up the good work.

You are indeed correct, Reverend.

Forum Posting Rule #57:
Read the whole post before you act like a jackass/dumbass while "schooling" the original poster.

Maybe you should practise your own rule. I was referring both to the fact there was already other places discussing this AND that it had already been requested in those threads.

Of course then I would have to follow my own tips and not continue picking option C!

Sitting here drinking my blue milk and commenting to myself on the gheyness of the concept of "proper forum etiquette," I remember that as a mod I shouldn't post about such things. (oops)

I did some research a while back on this "Engrish" ROTS bootleg. All I could really find was that it was an Asian bootleg and it may have never found its way online. I did, however, try searching for downloadable Chinese subtitles that I could translate back into English. I didn't put much effort in though and something else came up, so all I got was a set of Japanese subs that I have yet to play around with. Anyone else have any experience with subs and/or know where to find this bootleg? At the very least, this would be a great addition to a future ROTS DVD edit.

Well, I wasn't referring to you in my post.

Which brings me to Forum Posting Rule # 127: Forgive and Forget, leave behind no hard feelings.

The original article at winterson.com went down ages ago, so posting a link to an alternative mirror was a useful exercise.

I did get my hands on an Asian bootleg pressing of Ep. III, but it was the later one without the timer and with the Russian opening text. The English subtitles on that were not perfect, but nowhere near humourous as the version shown.

These subs are a MUST on any future release of ROTS. I hope someone finds a full copy.

Is it possible to tell from those screen caps, if those are burnt in subtitles or an .srt?

There's a torrent for a full SW3 Backstroke of the West DVD (4.14GB) at a thepiratebay. And the Engrish subtitles are optional.
Alternatively there's also an .avi version (700MB) torrent there too.

I've used subrip to extract the subtitles to a couple of formats, that you can download here

SRT, STL and SUB files created using OCR setting in SubRip. (80KB zip file)
SUP file extracted with VobEdit - not sure how useful this is as I've never found any software that can edit SUP files, but its a straight demux from the DVD. (1MB zip file)

As I've not reauthored the disc using these files, it's hard to know quite how accurate they are, although I imported just the stl file into DVD Maestro and the subtitles seemed to appear at the correct times.

The thing to bear in mind is they are timed to fit the controversial timecoded bootleg, which has several sections where the video repeats itselfs for several seconds. If you wanted to fit these to the official DVD they would get progressivley out of sync, so the subtitles would need nugding forward by a few seconds at key points (where the bootleg repeats).

Thanks s7en! You think you can seed the DVD? It says there are currently no seeders

EDIT: Apparently, the number of seeders that the Pirate Bay is reporting is bunk, there's some on now. Thanks so much for the alert!

As if it's common practice for anyone to search for a thread before they post a topic anyway...if someone wants to talk about something, and it's only ever been discussed ages ago, then I think it's perfectly fine if the discussion is brought to the fore again. It just means that the topic's still relevant. And chances are, I'll want to talk about it. If you've discussed the topic before, then surprise, surprise, you don't actually HAVE to discuss it (you didn't even have to click the thread link). Just don't spoil it for the others who haven't searched through the entire history of threads in this forum and actually want to discuss it no matter how well tread the thread topic is.

Reverand, your wish is my command. Seeding now. Right now the availability of the torrent is at 3.999 so there should be more than enough data out there. I've also noticed that thepiratebays website doesn't always accurately reflect the number of people connected to the torrent for some reason. I've recently decided its sometimes worth trying those zero seed torrents to find out of the tracker says otherwise.

Redbaron, were you replying to a post thats been deleted? As your post appears slightly out of context - although i have to agree with its sentiments.

Has anyone else seen the Fellowship Of The Ring that had these types of subs? I have it and it is hilarious. Not quite as funny as Backstroke, but in the same ballpark.
