Any more thoughts on the Emperor's phone call in ESB?

LOL...do you realize how many times the films have been re-released?

MeBeJedi: Sadly, I believe the prequels are beyond repair.
JediRandy: They’re certainly beyond any repair you’re capable of making.

Go-Mer-Tonic: I can’t say I find that very disappointing.

Since's no one else has made any covers for DE's great edit of ANH, I've decided to do one of my own. Here 'tis:

Here's my vision of what the set might look like when done:

http://www.erikstormtrooper.com/darth_editous_set1.jpg

This is the first cover I've ever done, so I welcome all critiques (oh, and compliments too).

NOTE: Edited on Aug-1-05 to now include the same "modified" artwork on the back as DE's disc label, plus two screenshots have been tweaked slightly.

You know of the rebellion against the Empire?

DE, thanks! I'm sure you realize all the stuff on the bottom of the back is the same as the original (Region 1) DVD cover. I guess I was lazy. Does anyone read that stuff anyway?

Dark_Jedi, I designed my covers to work with the disc labels that Darth Editous already made. If you look closely at the back of the cover, behind the text and screenshots, you'll see the same image. I plan on doing the same thing when ESB is done.

Yes they are, but it's Erik's work, not mine

Actually, it's not quite the same... if you look at the image on the disc, you'll see that I straightened Luke's legs so he doesn't look like he's auditioning for the ballet I think I also moved the Death Star a bit so it was centred with Luke's lightsabre.

I hope you stick with the ANH red, ESB blue, ROTJ green motif, as I've always felt that the movies were those colours.

I hope ESB does get the blue color, anyway have you decided what changes will be done to Return of the Jedi's DVD?

Nope. I'm trying not to watch the RoTJ DVD until I've fixed ESB. Which could be some time, as I haven't even started yet.

Great covers Erik. Like them a lot. If the labels have the same covers as the covers do, keep them that way. If not, I'd suggest changing Hope and Empire to the red for Hope and blue for Empire. Where are the labels Darth Edious already made posted? In a torrent or in this thread?

just wondering could you post a list at some of the changes in Empire Strikes Back just to know some of the stuff.

I never noticed that, DE. You never stop retouching, do you? Is there any way I could get that image from you without "Star Wars" on it? I'd love to update my cover with it.

Seeing as several people have said this, I wonder if there's something I'm missing here. Has there been some official LFL release or product that had this color scheme?

But Erik's ANH has the blue colour scheme.

I've always thought that ANH was best represented by red because of the twin sunsets and desert of Tatooine, ESB was blue because of the ice planet Hoth and ROTJ was green because of the forest moon of Endor.

That's pretty much it for me too - there are no "official" colours as far as I know, although the VHS boxset went blue-red-green instead of red-blue-green.

Erik, email me at dartheditous @ hotmail.co.uk and I'll send you the retouched image, and also some better captures of those screenshots on the back if you need them.

Editous did you manage to list some of the few changes in ESB? How is the process by the way?

If you mean progress, I've done very little so far. Got to move house soon, and other stuff, so it's pretty much on hold.

So far I have a list of about 80 things, though this will fluctuate if I find more, or decide to ignore some of them.

Here's a selection of things I might change:

1. Replace "led by Luke Skywalker" in the opening crawl, because he's not really leading, is he?
2. There's a strangely linear feature in the atmosphere as Luke flies away from Hoth.
3. Align R2's text in the X-Wing cockpit so it doesn't look badly superimposed.
4. R2 looks TOO blue in some shots in space (as opposed to not looking blue at all in ANH).
5. Replace "You were lucky to get out of there" with "You're lucky you don't taste too good."
6. Make the Emperor scene closer to the OT/SE, and hide more of Palpatine's face.
7. Replace Boba Fett's voice. I wouldn't mind so much if the lines were actually delivered well, but they're not.
8. R2 uses the wrong tool to "access" the power outlet.
9. Something to liven up the painting of the "weather vane" inside Cloud City.
10. Extend the flashes from the lightsabres to illuminate the matte painting as well.
11. Replace Vader's "Inform my Star Destroyer..." with "Bring my shuttle."
12. There are two shots of Captain Needa saying "Yes M'Lord", one of which appears to have been shot on the wrong part of the set. The only fix I can think of is to duplicate the shot, which might make things worse.
13. The cables in Luke's artifical hand don't move in sync with his fingers.
14. Remove Clive Revill from the credits and add Ian McDiarmid.
15. Spell Denis Lawson correctly, again!

hmm is there any chance to put "the evil Sith lord Darth Vader" in the opening crawl? and not to mention correct Luke's faulty lightsaber in the wampa cave.

Hey DE, I don't know if you caught this. I know you corrected the spelling of Wedge's name, Denis (one "s") Lawson, but did you correct Red Leader's name too? In the credits his name is spelled Drewe Hemley, but his name is actually Drewe Henley. Apparently the misspelling became a problem when they were organizing a rogue squadron reunion some years ago and couldn't find any trace of red leader.

Just thought I would ask.

I was going to make a CD-sized Divx out of it. I'll put it on the to-do list Anyone else is welcome to upload an image of the DVD to wherever they'd like, but I'd rather make the Divx (or maybe Xvid if I can get the hang of it) version myself.

Single-CD DivX for anything over about 100mins will generally look pretty crap. I'd suggest a 2-disc XviD with AC3 sound.
