Please keep the scene where Boba is flirting with the girl in Jabba’s palace.

It is the only good addition to the Return of the Jedi Special Edition.

Sorry, all of the “Special Edition” additions to that scene will be going. They’re so awful.

Agreed, they are awful (CGI Sy Snootles, the new band members, the 3 dancing girls, etc.). However, I thought the new scenes they filmed with Femi Taylor reprising her role as Oola were actually pretty good. She looked exactly the same as she did 15 years earlier and I’ve always liked her extra scenes in the rancor pit.

Will you be keeping Oola’s extra scenes or will your edit return her involvement closer to the original version?

Oola in the pit is likely to go.

Thanks for answering. If her scene in the pit does go, I will miss it, but I’m still very much looking forward to seeing your edit.

Also, great work on the colour grading 😃

Last night, i started the colour grading stage for ROTJ:R. Here are a couple of sneak peeks of ROTJ:R…

Wonderful job as always Ady!

JEDIT: Not again!

Newton’s First Fundamental Law: A body remains at rest or in uniform motion until and unless an external force acts upon it.

Newton’s Second Fundamental Law: The rate of change of momentum of an object is proportional to the resultant force acting on the body and is in the same direction.

Newton’s Third Fundamental Law: All forces occur in pairs, and these two forces are equal in attitude and opposite in direction.

Newton’s Fourth Fundamental Law: Paja’s posts on OriginalTrilogy.com will always start a new page.

I have a question for Adywan

It may sound very trivial but I was wondering if you will be able to change the insignia rankings for both Jerjerrod and Admiral Piett?

In Return it seems they both were given the same rank insignia even though Admiral Piett had a different rank insignia in Empire

Author
Time

I’m actually pretty sure all Imperial officers have the same rank insignia in Jedi. I’d love to see that fixed as well.

Damn. Figured it was a bit of a long shot, but still - it’s bugged me ever since it was pointed out to me.

hi ady. do you plan on fixing “ghost han” and “ghost rebel” in the shot where he’s running away from the shield generator? it’s at around 1:54:38 in the bluray. there’s some sort of reflection that creates this effect.

Author
Time

It’s a reflection of them on the lens somehow due to the brightness of the image. Doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be painted out.

Just some more input here…

  • Not sure if Ady has made a final decision on the sarlacc, but I think that the original, lifeless pit is as bad as the CGI beak. However, the latter could be made to work if there were any way to make it look less like a video game. Is there anything Ady might be able to do in that regard?

  • Similar suggestions may have already been made, but for the battle on Endor, there are two or three shots from the second Ewok TV movie, ‘The Battle for Endor’, where Ewoks fire blasters. If a high enough quality source of this footage is obtainable, it could be used to make the Ewoks look a bit more like a serious threat to the stormtroopers.

  • Lastly, also for Endor, has Ady considered including an extra to play the “Nik Sant” character that Dave Filoni and many fans want to retcon as Rex from ‘Rebels’? (This guy: https://goo.gl/images/Z42jTU ) Perhaps if a good lookalike can be found, some of the rebel soldiers could refer to him as “Rex” during the battle?

Some of those shots in Battle For Endor are actually unused ROTJ footage.

How much screentime are these new pilots going to take up? How will this new material affect things like the music? There’s a mostly different unused version of the Sail Barge battle cue on the 2004 soundtrack release that could be useful.

I’m Mr. Know-It-All.
Here’s a clue… Grab the spinning rings. It’s important. As long as you’ve got the rings, you’ll be okay, even if
you hit any hazards. Now you know.

Oh, and don’t worry if the
view suddenly changes. It does that sometimes. Just keep moving in the direction you want. It may take a little time to get used to it, so keep trying.

For the Ewoks with blasters, it could work if you scaled down the SD footage and inserted it into the HD frames. Some sort of digital matte or compositing would be needed, but it’s doable. There are plenty of forest shots that could be used as a base (cropped, flipped, etc).

Also, inserting some weapons to the Ewok village establishing shots would help…

I wonder what people would think about adding a couple of stormtrooper/scout helmets to the Ewok village, in the background somewhere, to establish early on that the Ewoks have been skirmishing with the Empire all along. Some implied experience might help explain their later stormtrooper killing prowess…

Author

That would help. Specially some weapons on the village.
That way, the Ewoks distraction makes more sense. They are leading the stormtroopers to their village.

There are a lot of things buried on Jedi that can be used to take the movie to another level.
Just after C3PO finishes telling the story to the Ewoks, there’s a shot of Luke.
He’s using the force to mind-control them, but that moment has been toned down in editing.

Finally, thanks to the 4k83 release, i can replace the section of the Official Blu-Ray that is completely out of focus. It’s a shame that the dark areas in the 4K83 don’t seem to contain as much visual information and that the highlights are completely blown out in places, but it’s miles better than what we have officially. How the hell this even got passed quality control, i don;t know. And it’s obvious that they tried to artificially sharpen it too, so they knew about this problem.

Good stuff!

Is there a reason it’s out of focus on the Blu-Ray? Did Lucasfilm goof up their transfer?

Oh man… where to begin? If I remember correctly, when Lucas decided he wanted to release the films on DVD and later Blu-Ray he gave the teams in charge of the release a ridiculously short window to get the projects done. The master for the DVD was used for the Blu-Rays with a few fixes, and even more rush changes.

Assuming it’s a whole reel (which I think it is?) it was likely a scanning focus issue and they decided they didn’t have enough time to rescan the reel.

No, it’s just a section. Even then there are a few shots that are perfectly fine mixed in towards the end.

That’s so bizarre. God the BR set is a mess…

Thanks for the comparison shots. The 4k83 version really shows how bad the Blu-ray was.

Adywan with the 4k83 shots will you be able to fix the highlights or are they baked in the film?
