I want to be able to sync any of schorman’s GOUT synced laserdisc tracks to 4k83. So as I understood it somewhere 2 frames need to be inserted. So I want to duplicate the frame before the 2 extra frames 2 times to get an audio file of the correct length, like in the script above.

The result wouldn’t sound very smooth, but you could do that. If you take that approach, duplicate the frame before once and the frame after once: it will be less noticeable.

However, frame 68663 is already past the wipe, so I don’t think it’s the correct position.

It is though – I’ve checked. The missing frames occur before the cut to the briefing room. After the wipe, watch the first fighter that clears the nose of the Mon Calamari vessel.

If you want to continue this discussion, perhaps we should be move it to the GOUT-sync thread. 😃

EDIT: By the way, the frame-count of the NTSC GOUT post-IVTC is 190799.

Did you try it? I don’t hear it at all. I don’t even think I hear it when I duplicate the frame 10 times.

But it’s about syncing to 4k83 so I guess we don’t have to move the discussion. 😃

I was not sure about the frame count so I just picked a save number. The length of the audio file won’t increase because of a blank clip with to many frames.

My Avisynth-fu has never been anything except rusty, but I think that means if you delete frames 68664 and 68665 from 4k83, you’ll get NTSC GOUT.

That’s right. 😃

Although I don’t see how there can be 2 extra frames after frame 68663.

It’s the two missing frames of the rebel fleet immediately after Luke’s conversation with Ben. Perhaps you are more used to the PAL GOUT.

What are you trying to re-sync, Arnied?

Arnie.d,

I have them all done already. I will be posting them to tswt forums later today or tomorrow.

Edit: Now available!

Yes, I’ve tried it many times. It’s certainly noticeable when I duplicate a frame ten times in a situation like this. But it’s up to you.

That’s true, but I didn’t want to clutter up the thread with too much GOUT discussion, some of which has already spilled over from the other thread into this one.

I just thought that the information might come in useful.

Yes, that entire forum is unviewable if you’re not logged in IIRC.

That explains it. I don’t have an account.

You should be able to create an account and have it approved with no issues if you use the same username as you do here at OT. But it won’t be usable instantly, since it has to be manually approved by one of the staff (like willarob), so you’ll have to wait for your approval email before you can log in.

I have an account now. Waiting for confirmation. Thanks for the help!

It is probably easier to edit the audio tracks. Especially at reel changes.

Yeah, I’m not sure if it’s actually too desaturated or the black level and/or contrast is too low - I actually turned my TV’s brightness down a ton and it looked significantly better with no crushed blacks (the letterboxing was still the blackest part of any given frame by far), and it seemed to bring out the color a little more. For 4K77, I didn’t have to change any settings at all on my TV, though I was occasionally tempted to turn the brightness up, the exact opposite of how I felt with 4K83.

I’m really looking forward to a shot-by-shot CC with reel change markers painted out.

You just need to un-calibrate your monitor.

That’s impossible, even for a computer.

Just to tie up the sync discussion, which is continuing over in the GOUT sync thread, Discostu has pointed out, and I’ve confirmed, that the sync difference of two frames is noticeable in at least the German dub, which does a lot better lip-matching than most dubs. But now that we know that, it’s hard to know if we can really draw a bright line and declare any dubs at all to be immune to a noticeable two-frame sync difference. So if you want to sync with 4k83, you do need to edit the audio, regardless of what the audio is. Or trim two frames from the video.

I’m still confident in stating that subtitles are nothing to worry about.

The ISO of the enhanced version is nearing completion.

There is some very mild DNR, a contrast adjustment and some mild sharpening also, so it fills the same niche as the DNR version of 4K77

I didn’t think you could make it look better but you’ve done it. Congrats friend!! ❤️❤️😉

Will you release an MKV of the DNR version as well?

ISO to MKV is a one click and it’s done process. MKV to Bluray ISO with menus is much more involved. So, no is the answer to your question. If you want an MKV, you can make one in just a few minutes.

I was just reading over the release notes for the first time, and the part about this being made from a special release print struck directly from the original negative, so we’re essentially working with an inter-positive?! YaY.

Same generation from the o-neg, but NOT an interpositive (which has lower contrast and a distinctly orange color). This is a print in the intended color timing made directly from the negative for special showings. Interpostives are made to master hundreds of prints (directly making internegatives from which the final prints are made).

These are the steps for release prints. This is supposed to be a print that skipped the middle two steps. Very commonly done in low numbers.

A random observation, but when C-3PO falls off of the Sail Barge in this version you can see part of the camera housing or something on the left which doesn’t appear in the Blu-ray. Is this in the VHS versions?

It is not in the GOUT, but then the cropping for the GOUT, Blu-ray, and 4k83 are each different so it might be something that was cropped out of the others.

I noticed that too. Stuck out immediately. Though I don’t recall noticing it in Harmy’s 35mm Grindhouse LPP. Does anyone know if it’s there too?

I haven’t finished downloading this yet but I have some questions about the audio. Sorry if they’ve already been clearly answered, I’m too tired to read through the thread at the moment.

What’s the difference between the optical audio track packed in the mkv file and the “cleaned” one?
And are there any digital tracks that actually matches the theatrical stereo audio? I see the 1993 LD track is there but weren’t all the 1993 LD mixes altered? The 1983 Japan and US sources, are they from LDs too?

The image quality is great by the way, managed to preview a bit of it. 😃
