Just a PSA, guys - you’re more likely to get a response if you send a PM to the creator asking for a link than you will posting in the thread asking for a PM.

Yeah, I think I’m the only one who can be expected to manage a project like that 😉 Send him the PM or risk getting ignored.
After more consideration, I have to add that this restoration is not just good, it’s great. 44rh1n didn’t miss a thing as far as I’m concerned. Technically he may have used some inferior sources (TE instead of Netflix) but damn if I can tell.
So, since digital restorations of regrades are so easy, when are you going to do O Brother Where Art Thou? Inquiring minds want to know.

Quoted for truth. It’s quite magnificent.

Wait, is O Brother on Blu screwed up?! I didn’t know, it’s been ages since I watched it…

It’s got a whole new grade. Deakins supervised it and it looks good (and I think suites the photography better), but it has less of an aggressive sepia tone on the landscape, which is what O Brother was known for, being one of the first films graded entirely with a DI. It’s definitively worth preserving the DVD’s colors.
Star Trek: The Motion Picture DE - The Anti-DNR Fanedit
Duel (1971) - The Hybrid Cut
The Phantom of the Opera - 1925 Version Reconstruction - Rare Scores Collection - Roy Budd Score

Download the HDTVrip from rutracker or Usenet then…

This FOTR EE restoration took nearly an entire year. 😃

Do you have the HDTVrip that you could privately send me? 😉
What do you think about such hybrids?

Oh now you’re just teasing me. FWIW, the HDTV video has a consistent magenta cast compared with the DVD but may absolutely be a better initial source for such a project. I think the DVD’s colors are very very close to theatrical, but it’s hard to say with any certainty since they’re all definitely heavily digitally altered.
Beautiful restoration 44rh1n! The colours look rich and vivid and are more refined than the ‘You_Too’ blanket color correction, although i still like some of the outdoor scenes from that version (Arwen riding with Frodo, the hobbits at Weathertop, maybe just because they’re a bit lighter). Having said that, your version is obviously much more preferable, with more natural colors and light, making it more of a cohesive thing. Thank you very much for your work!
Hope you’ll continue working on it, hope somebody can help you with this Netflix version. (can’t rip it properly myself either…)
The EE Elvish subs are hardcoded in the R1 BD’s, but in here in Europe they’re definitely soft.

Is the European BD of the theatrical version also soft subs? Or just the extended edition?
Pretty sure they’re hardcoded on my EE BR, but it’s been ages since I watched the actual disc (and I’m at work right now) so I can’t confirm.
The BluRays / DVDs for USA have burnt-in subtitles, and the BluRays / DVDs for Europe and other regions have player-generated subtitles. As easy as that.
With one noteable exception: at least the Middle-Earth Wooden Box BluRay versions (UK) have the same discs as the US versions, i.e. burnt-in. Don’t know how it was done on the older UK EiV editions.

Yes.
Thanks!
I just learned about this release (and the “green tint problem”) two days ago. So weird with a movie I have for such a long time already. This release is spectacular - I think I can save myself the hassles to experiment with the You_Too method like on HowToGeek which would only correct/shift the tint anyway.
I agree, this deserves more exposure. Great work!
(Still wondering what PJ was actually smoking, and why this was never corrected)
I finally got a chance to check this out, and I gotta say the movie looks incredible! I’ve been watching You_Too’s green tint fix for the past three years, but this just FEELS more like Fellowship in every scene. Thank you 44rh1n for your work on this great release, and if you do make a version 2 with the Netflix release, I’d love to check it out!! 😄
This looks pretty great. How would I go about getting a copy?
Does anyone know if the iTunes version of the extended version also suffers from the green tint problem?

Yes, it does. All the “Digital HD” platforms have the bad color as well.
I would be grateful for a PM also.
It should be possible to merge your mkv with other official SEE Blu-ray audio to customize language…

Yep, languages should be pretty easy for anyone to add. Although, you’d probably want to do that with V2, since all the official Blu-ray releases are split into two parts. Then, you can merge the two parts together if you want it as one file.
Also, if you have any languages that you want added to a future release, feel free to send them to me. I already have German and Italian that I’m planning to add to the next release, which will hopefully be sometime in the next few months. (Just waiting on a request to be filled to get a NTFLX WEB-DL of Fellowship first). 😃
Incredible work! How does one simply watch it?
44rh1n can you make a comparison of netflix web-dl and bluray TE, EE?

There is no WEB-DL of Fellowship from Netflix yet, at least not one that I’m aware of. I’m hoping someone who is able to do it will eventually do it.
There’s just a Roku capture that I made, so I guess it’s technically a “WEB-RIP.” The quality is ok, but certainly not the greatest, and I haven’t decided if I’m going to use it or not. It’s 30fps interlaced. I’m really hoping someone can do a proper WEB-DL because it will be much better.
However, here’s a good comparison image of the Blu-ray vs. the Roku capture. There’s certainly a lot less DNR in the capture. https://i.imgur.com/JsXkMQn.jpg
That can’t be from the blu-ray. Is it compressed? What? No.
I don’t disbelieve you, it’s just astonishing how much better the Netflix version is.
You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.
