@darkspire17 these things cost $$ when poita says he can get time on a scanner he doesn’t mean that it’s free. If you would like to see these released I would encourage you to send a donation.

Yeah, shipping, cleaning and scanning is rarely less than a couple of thousand dollars in costs.

What is Return of the Ewok, and did it have a film release?

I’m not sure, I remember something about Warwick Davis making a film, maybe it was that one?

There are bits of it on youtube, but not the whole thing.

It’s a short little mockumentary about a fitionalised version of how Warwick Davis got the role of Wicket in ROTJ. Mostly just has him goofing around the set. A highlight in the film was Boba Fett chasing Wicket around the Death Star.

The full thing was only 25 minutes and never officially released but a version combining the best sources was made by Garrett Gilchrist (aka OCPMovie of Star Wars: Deleted Magic) and SKot Kirkwood.

i am fully aware of the costs of transfering film, i was saying if its ever done, i hope to see it uploaded, and ROTE is a film davis filmed while ROTJ was being produced, him attempting to find a job and working as an ewok, its pretty hilarious, and great to see some behind the scenes work

$2 would help 😃

In all seriousness, it wasn’t a dig, we have a lot of new people here who aren’t aware of the difficulty, risks and costs both financial and time in getting this stuff done.

And again, in all seriousness, $5 or less is a genuine help, if a hundred people (and going by the downloads, there are many, many hundreds of people) donated $5 or even $2 it would be a massive help in covering some of the costs, people don’t need to be on big money to help out. I earned a stupidly small amount of money last year, and I always appreciate people foregoing a coke or something to help out.

I’m not having a go at you or anyone, my point was just that this stuff doesn’t come cheap at all and poita definitely needs some financial help on this one. These films aren’t going to scan themselves if poita can’t afford the bills. The price of these films is very high - it’s more money than I’ve ever spent all at once buying film, and I currently have some very expensive films - so I can only imagine in horror at the financial pressure that poita would be feeling at the moment. My message isn’t directed just to you, I want to do my part to remind people to please donate if they’re interested in this project - anything from $2 to $20,000+ would be accepted.

Speaking about this, I know that I’m not just speaking for myself when I say that we get questions all the time from people asking “when are you going to upload this”, or “can I get the raw scan now”. And while we all appreciate people’s enthusiasm for these projects, it is often missing the point of what we’re doing with our projects. They are to preserve film. It gets tricky to manage people’s expectations. I still have more Disney films to organise to scan and no funds at all at the moment myself, so I know all too well how the financial strain can bottleneck the work.

Anyway, to recap the SW documentary films cost €2,300 (!) to purchase so I would encourage everyone interested in them to think about what they could afford to donate towards the project. You would be supporting poita’s very important and very very generous preservation & restoration work.

trust me i know what its like to have people ask me to uplaod restorations, ive got one that ive been working for about 4 years on, every time someone asks it just gets so annoying, now other people are coming out claiming oh im going t odo this in HD and im just sitting here like, you know how much ive spent right? soon to be over 800$ on mateirals, and theyy think they can just get up and start looking, restorations take time and comitment, aswell as deep fucking pockets, @poita id be willing to donate to your project once im finaly financialy stable (litteraly should be less than a few weeks) id love to see from star wars to jedi in such a high quality, beats what lucasfilm dose, just take standard def videos, add them to the bluray with a boarder, i wish you well with your project, and hopefully more people like you will be common someday, seeing projects die, or private collectors teasing is a real issue, Good luck, the force will be with you, allways.

This sounds amazing! I will try to get some money together to donate.

I might have something else to contribute though. I ocr’d the forced hardcoded french subtitles from the french LD copy of From Star Wars to Jedi to a srt file. These are only useful paired with the same french audio track. The French LD copy was missing 4 seconds in the middle around ~24:00 that the English version had (maybe a cut from LD side flip?). It was only a 4.4 second music segment/desert shot so I just cut the audio segment from the English track to the French one. I don’t speak french or anything but was trying to be complete with another project.

I also have complete English subtitles I made manually. I started with a speech to text transcript and went through and manually corrected and synced the lines to the waveform.

Anyway if you are interested. I thought they might be useful.

What resolution will these be scanned for a 1.33 aspect ratio?

Author
Time

It is likely going to be scanned on a 6K Arri with a 16mm gate, I’m not sure what resolution at this stage.

Thanks for the offer of subtitles etc. I’m sure they could be put to good use.

Also thanks for the plan to donate, I spent $870 just on freight this week for various Star Wars projects. Eek!
