Here’s an alteration to the regrade.

New regrade compared to original:

Army of Darkness: The Medieval Deadit | The Terminator - Color Regrade | The Wrong Trousers - Audio Preservation
SONIC RACES THROUGH THE GREEN FIELDS.
THE SUN RACES THROUGH A BLUE SKY FILLED WITH WHITE CLOUDS.
THE WAYS OF HIS HEART ARE MUCH LIKE THE SUN. SONIC RUNS AND RESTS; THE SUN RISES AND SETS.
DON’T GIVE UP ON THE SUN. DON’T MAKE THE SUN LAUGH AT YOU.

That’s your preference, then. I am trying to match the colors to an aproximation of the more brownish, monochrome look of the end of Evil Dead II, because I think that look really helped the scene feel other worldly, and Ash feels odd and out of place when he’s spit out in medieval England.

IMO the colors on all of the BD sources are at least slightly over-saturated, and that mixed with the generally clean look of the film, makes it feel more like a Hollywood lot, rather than feeling like medieval times. I just don’t think the original colors for the beginning sequence build atmosphere very well.

^Thanks. I might work on a little more, though, just to experiment with making the colors stronger without getting rid of the monochrome feel.

Color grading update:

I’ve been using the Director’s Cut footage, but after trying out my techniques with the International Cut footage, it’s giving much better results, so I’m going to end up using that. And it all works out, because the first 45 minutes of the International Cut is identical to the Director’s Cut.

EDIT: I’ve made an adjustment to the new grade.

Been a while away from this thread, quick update here:

Work has begun on this project, though I think it’s going a little slow. Anyone who is vaguely interested keep an eye open for more info as I finish more of the edit. Also be aware that the specific edits will not necessarily be the same as discussed in this thread previously.

Hello everyone! I’ve completed a lot of work on this, and when it gets closer to being finished, I’ll get around to posting a finalized changes list (which won’t be very long). I’m posting now to ask for feedback from anyone who cares. This is my currently finished edit of the “Little Ashes” sequence, which had a couple of shots removed and had the music reinserted:

The only thing I removed in my edit is the handstand bit. I think it’s a bit too silly. The majority of my edit will be the Director’s Cut, and I will just be making some trims like this, with a few audio edits.

I won’t be putting in any TV cut scenes because of the SD quality drop, even though I was planning to use the exterior windmill scene before deciding against it.
