Also it’s a “straightwashing,” and is leaving out Mercury’s bisexuality and AIDS problems in order to just be a nice and happy story about a musician.

How can they avoid the thing that caused his death? The most recent trailer certainly hints at Mecury’s orientation.

Me and my sister were real fucking excited for ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’, until I learned that Bryan Singer directed it. I don’t know if I want to support the movie.

How many classic movies are you going to disregard now because of that mindset?

The thing is, I can still enjoy a good ol’ Kevin Spacey flick because at the time of the films release, we had no idea how much of a fucking scumbag he was.

So it ultimately has nothing to do with the quality movie or the crimes of the artist, it just has to do with when it was released?

Bohemian Rhapsody is an UPCOMING Bryan Singer movie, coming out AFTER we all found out he’s a fucking scumbag. I just think he shouldn’t have been hired in the first place.

Sure, but that doesn’t mean the movie is bad. I can’t imagine wanting to see a movie and then choosing not to because of someone involved being problematic. It’s like refusing to live in a house because the architect that designed the floor-plan was bad.

JEDIT: I don’t need to watch ‘Triumph of the Will’ to know how evil it is.

That’s a terrible example. Bohemian Rhapsody isn’t a propaganda film from Nazi Germany, for one, and Triumph of the Will is an already-released film that we know about. No one has seen Bohemian Rhapsody nor knows what it leaves out or doesn’t leave out. Triumph of the Will was also a product of the Nazi Party, whereas Brian Singer was only one of many that worked on Bohemian Rhapsody. Even if it is “straightwashing”, which I don’t even think is an appropriate word if that is the case, that’s not evil, at least not by any sane definition of evil. Also, as uncomfortable as this is to acknowledge, Triumph of the Will is actually a landmark piece of cinema, as is Birth of a Nation, however evil they may be.

If Bohemian Rhapsody is good, then I’ll watch it, no matter how “offensive” it is for whatever reason. I don’t want to downplay how problematic it would be to downplay Freddie Mercury’s sexuality or his battle with AIDS, but if they’re able to tell a good story without those being prominent aspects of the plot, then so be it. I’ll give it a chance. Often when films try to sanitize the subject matter, they suck. That’s why The Green Berets is one of the worst films ever made.

It depends on how much of his life they cover. I find it hard to believe that they’d go the politically correct route and downplay so much of what made Freddie so interesting and tragic. If so, then fuck them, but we don’t even know if that’s the case and that doesn’t mean that the movie would be bad.

I must have hit pretty close to the mark to get you riled up like that.

No, it’s called having a discussion.

I’ve mentioned RuneScape recently. Well, I started playing it again when I had nothing to do at a library computer earlier this month (because what else can you play on a library computer?). Haven’t touched it in maybe five years, at least not for any longer than a day or so. But, I gotta say, that game has always been highly addictive. And I think I’m addicted to it again. Haven’t been this into it in at least eight years. I hate it.

I’d like to bitch about people that think that every time someone reacts strongly to something it’s because they’re just “riled up” over the person they’re talking to. Why even waste time with that post? If you’re not going to actually respond to the discussion then why even make a comment? I know you don’t actually care what I have to say, but the reason I feel so strongly about this subject is because I think that people’s inability to separate art from the artist is a big threat to this society’s ability to appreciate great work.

Y’know, I know not wanting to see the movie is stupid and irrational, but I don’t care. Nothing you say can change my mind.

Okay i wasn’t trying to, I just wanted that admission

My sister and I were cleaning up the back porch, and a heavy piece of wood fell on one of our kittens. I think his neck was broken, but he’s still alive. There’s no money for a vet, so I don’t know what to do about him.

Goodness, that’s the kind of thing I’ve been paranoid about happening to one of my kittens. I’ll pray for the little fella.

I think that makes you a jerk on this forum. Isn’t that where we landed on that?

Man what a shitty situation. Given the options you have, I have no idea what I would do.

If he were a veterinarian that refused to see the animal and instead offered prayers, then that would make him a jerk.

That’s terrible, DE! I hope the kitten recovers!

And if not I hope it at least gets to go with dignity and as little pain as possible. May the force be with it.

The kitten appears to have improved some. It doesn’t look like his neck was broken after all, 'cause he can raise and turn his head and he can eat, but he still likely suffered some spinal injury, 'cause he can’t stand and can’t walk.
