Unpopular onpinion: Lando is just a Han clone and offers nothing to the story.

Lando is a really fun and cool character in Solo and Empire, but once he turns good he’s boring. In ROTJ, they didn’t know what to do with him. They had too many characters, put Han in the falcon or Lando on the ground and the story would of been exactly the same (except for “I love you”).

I was perfectly fine with them abandoning Lando in the sequels. His story is finished, and it’s not like his son is evil like Han. Him not appearing raises the stakes in the EU, when Lando almost died in the Battlefront II campaign I legit thought he might. But now we know he survives until that strange week 30 years later, when the entire galaxy is flipped upside down.

I think that opinion is spot on. That’s one of the biggest problems with ROTJ. Both Han and Lando’s character arcs are finished in Empire. They both just take up space in ROTJ.

Also, if Luke’s ghost doesn’t haunt Kylo Ren mercilessly in the next movie, I will be severely disappointed.

People are speculating they shot some of the Sledgehammer scenes before the script was rewritten when Harrison broke his leg so they would have Leia in that.

It seems like people are really embracing the new characters. In fact, the big question people ask me now about Star Wars is, “Are Finn and Poe gay lovers?” And really how the f*ck would I know? My second husband left me for a man, so my gaydar isn’t exactly what you’d call Death Star level quality. ----Carrie Fisher

They easily could have found interesting things character-wise for both of them to do in ROTJ, they just didn’t. For example, Lando being a part of the rebellion is just something taken for granted.

One of the reasons it’s made sense that Lando hasn’t been in the ST yet is he’s not that guy. The only place you could have put him was as a random Resistance general but that wouldn’t really make sense. The Resistance is made up of former Republic military, which is hard to imagine Lando being a part of. Lando’s likely been living life as the leader of some giant corporation and/or private star system on the other side of the galaxy. It makes sense why the conflict hasn’t reached him yet in TFA/TLJ.

It’s certainly possible. Honestly it’s unclear how far a lot of things got before they were changed. Which is why I said earlier it’s sort of a benefit to them that they kept that whole process mysterious when talking about TFA’s production. It’s entirely possible that they have a completely unspoken of subplot that they could slide in. Or not.

I sort of imagined Lando owning a huge casino somewhere, maybe on an old converted Star Destroyer. Or he’s a high roller who gets the royal treatment at every casino in the galaxy, and lives pretty well while regaling the ladies with tales of how he blew up the Death Star.

I was literally just thinking how cool it’d be if he owned this:

As for speculation - I think the story is going to revolve around a group of planets/systems who are resisting the First Order. The force part will revolve around some sort of coming together of Rey and Kylo. Some sort of revelation that the old way of Jedi and Sith was too polarized and that the light and dark are supposed to work together rather than be at odds. I don’t see any romance between the two, but more of a team feeling in how they work it out. I see Poe taking Leia’s role in the Resistance while Leia, in a much reduced part, will be trying to build alliances. If there is a big ending, I expect her there. The new characters are interesting. Two new female characters and a one male. One seems to be very much a Leia replacement and probably is someone over Poe. The other seems to be another one of the team. I have no idea who Richard E Grant is playing. But not all the characters should be on the good side and he makes a delicious villain.

True. I should have been more specific. Their character arcs in Empire have a sort of completeness to them rather than a finality. Yes, they could have found interesting things for them to do in ROTJ, but didn’t. I think that was proven with Han Solo in TFA. Giving him father-son issues gave the audience a different (I think very interesting) look at Han.

And this is juicy… found it just now - https://movieweb.com/star-wars-9-richard-e-grant-grand-admiral-thrawn/

They state hot and steamy rumor in the article . hot and steamy ? like a pile of Shite ? and I love thrawn as much as the next guy , but why does this new incarnation of him have the Mcdonald’s golden arches on his forehead ? Still , I think it would be cool to see Thrawn in live action , and for some reason , I always thought James Bond era Pierce Brosnan would have been perfect for the role .

I find it interesting that they specifically said Carrie’s stuff would be unused TFA footage, implying that they won’t also be using any unused TLJ footage on top of that.

I think there probably just isn’t any unused TLJ stuff.

Which is a shame, I much preferred the lighting and costume from TLJ - she just looked so regal.

You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.

Totally agree. I’m kinda hoping they do some minor CG adjustments to her TFA outfit to at least make it seem different (there’s also the possibility that they’ll keep her as-shot long braid).

I think she will be heavily CGI’d. The performance will still be hers, the face and words all hers, but I imagine they will change her outfit and location to fit more closely with the film.

One rumor is that they are returning to Yavin base and it will be destroyed by the First Order. I could see them repurposing her scenes inside the command center in TFA to be in the Yavin base and she ultimately meets her death
helping them escape?

I’m calling it now - the Big Three will all be Force Ghosts by the end (yes, even Han somehow) and they’ll all appear to Rey as a mirror to Luke’s scene in ROTJ.

Ep. IX SE will have Alden Ehrenreich force ghost.

Having Hayden Christensen appear in IX is my single biggest fear for the film.

If that were to happen I’d have to write off the entire ST and I’d rather not do that. =/

There was a split moment during TLJ where, if you had paused the film in that second and asked me, I would’ve put money on Harrison Ford making an appearance.

Lando might be the Lor San Tekka of Ep 9, imo. We will wait and see.
