STAR WARS: EP IV 2004 REVISITED ADYWAN *1080p HD VERSION NOW IN PRODUCTION — Page 429

I like the imperial march added in. It’s not full blown in your face. So then in ESB the full version is released in its intended bigger scale.

“Because you are a PalpaWalker?”

Author

I need the Imperial March and and some music in the Vader/ Obi-Wan fight in my edit of this movie.

So now that Solo is out, is there anything from it that may influence this edit?

Author

Careful, the anti-spoiler policy for Solo is still applied.

I still think it’d be nice to add a bit of the Imperial March to the scene when Vader arrives on the Tantive, though that would mean replacing a small bit of original music.

I already created a brief edit to show what that might look and sound like. It’s minimalist, but it works.

https://player.vimeo.com/video/225892219

That’s simply perfect. It nicely fixes up something that always felt missing without disrupting the integrity of the scene. Also, it fits in quite nicely, well done.

I prefer the original audio.

Good for you, I guess?.. I am not sure why you would tell me this

Probably because that’s how discussion forums work. Just guessing though.

That’s not how it works at all. Not to mention, this wasn’t a discussion in the first place. Someone created something and I basically told them “I liked it, well done”, only for someone to come and say what amounts to “but I don’t like it”. He quoted me and no points were made, there was no need, no point and no reason whatsoever.

I mean, how does a forum discussion work out in your head?

Wow, superb job, very well done!

But I don’t like it.

But I like it.

And it goes on forever?

A 720p HD version will be coming out around 2016 after ROTJ:R is finished.

There will be some differences because i can’t recreate it 100% faithfully but it will be as close as possible. But i won’t be taking any suggestions for changes/ fixes for the HD version

Planned differences so far between the original and HD version of ANH:R

1 - No prequel music during the lightsaber duel
2 - No “lightsaber” effect on the torture droid needle
3 - Altered Mos Eisley entrance ( no mirrored stormtroopers and shorter intro)
4 - Final shot of Tarkin reinstated
5 - Spinning hyperspace jump starfield reinstated

Ady,

We are no longer getting the option of choosing yes or no to prequel music in the menu?

What about restoring the close-up of Threepio’s reaction to Artoo being shot by Vader’s Tie Fighter?

“Anakin had those qualities so rarely seen, exuding an unmistakable confidence and yet still able to touch one’s heart in simply knowing how he was so flawed… wounded.”

hello ady. what source(s) are you going to use to undo some SE changes? i strongly suggest the DNR version of 4K77 once completed, even if it might take a while.

Been looking at the start of Star Wars and I had an idea…

Original

Idea

Not saying you should do this exactly and it’s only a rough mock up job, but I felt it was perhaps the sort of thing that might be up your street?

So anyway you get the idea, hope you like the premise of it, and well It does make one wonder if there was some sort of background or optical composite that was meant to fill in the black bit?

hope it’s all going well…

Whoops just read you not taking suggestions but anyway there it is… Wondering if something was meant to go there?

Author
Time

I don’t think I’ve ever noticed that it is black all around it in the film. I like what you did, though I can tell where parts of the ship have been mirrored. I wonder if you could find a bigger source image that you could use. Even if not for Revisited this would be a cool asset for others!

Yeah I kalidescoped the edges but I also not sure if it should be a tunnel type so yeah???

I would imagine this is a missing matte painting of some description though… It would be better to find out what it was meant to be and go from there… Perhaps a storyboard?

Same as film but in 4:3 although it does look more tunnel like in the Joe Johnston art.

The Pod is Back to front in the Joe Johnston Art…

Author
Time

Nice idea, I think the tunnel surround would make more sense and would serve to keep the eye focused where it should be on the centre of the image.

They get in through the side and it blasts out downward, so I reckon tunnel matte too now.

The Door is on the right of the ring.

On Joe Johnston art the left.

It would make more sense to see the moon pass by the window than that star destroyer spinning given their trajectory but yeah try to make sense of the escape pod a bit. I guess the window is not on the front of the Pod> The impossible escape pod!!!

Square Window…

Alternate dialogue?

Interestingly, the novelization doesn’t include this line “The damage does not look as bad from out here”. Instead, 3PO asks R2 if he’s sure he knows how to pilot the escape pod.

Anyway a bit of fun 😃

I Imagine we were meant to be treated to a window shot with the “that’s funny the damage does not looks as bad from out here” then Blast off escape pod.

EDIT MARK AS SOLVED.

The Tunnel Matte is Missing from the Blast Off.

The trailer features a still matte version of the shot with better detail and color and it would be the still version that the tunnel matte is missing from I imagine.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vP_1T4ilm8M

This is a bit shorter and misses an animation on the ring part but nothing that could not be easily fixed.

The following Shot of Escape Pod flying on from the underbelly does not Belong in the sequence this was taken from the escape Pod that is destroyed sequence before the Tantive get’s clamped in.

The Round Window is correct the booster part of the Pod has separated / detached and is travelling to tattooine in a similar fashion to that of an Apollo Capsule cone up heat shield to the atmosphere,

The Blue Screen Hatch we see on the crashed escape Pod on Tattooine is missing the Matte for the Round window and circular frame port.

Something for you to consider:

At the celebration at the end with the soldiers that replaced the matte where you added in the cameos for you and George there is around 4 rows of soldiers on both sides, but in the next shot with the 3 guys walking down the aisle, there are only 2 rows of soldiers on both sides. A small nitpick that would be cool if you could fix it.

The Skywalker Saga:

This is the way.

OK, so now I’m very confused. Is Adywan taking suggestions here? Like I don’t have any, that been made already, but it seems that everyone else does have, even though he explicitly stated that he wouldn’t be making any new changes for the HD version. But, he has still responded to new feedback and it seemed that he agreed with some so…

People like talking about suggestions. It only is unnecessary if the conversation goes round and round in circles.

Adywan, I have a suggestion. The shot of the tie fighter chasing Luke after he say’s “I can’t shake him.” It’s always bothered me the original practical shot has the Tie fighter’s red thruster showing, but the special edition shot does not. It’s always something that never looked right. When you see the back of a tie fighter the red thrusters show.

All my life as I looked away to the future, to the horizon. Never in my mind did I know where I was, what I was doing.

I wanted to log all the missing tid-bits of audio / sound effects I found so far, and I know you care enough about the films so it’s worth compiling and giving you the info. I honestly don’t imagine there is much more than this list but it’s perhaps worth compiling a list as there is not one as far as I can tell.

  1. Captain Atillies thrown against the wall - Proper sound of hitting the Tank cynlinder not on set Audio found in German Dub and Radio Drama

  2. Landspeeder Search for R2-D2 - Radio Drama has Blip sound effect for scanner

  3. Sand People Attack - Radio Drama has Antony Daniels Shouting as he falls from the cliff and Hit sound for The Sand person Thrusting his Staff in to Luke, Luke also responds with a yelp

  4. Krayt Dragon Call - The Radio Drama features the Original Krayt Dragon call which comes in a bit earlier in this version you can also hear the sound of the Land Speeder Parts falling on the ground as the Sand people Turn in Surprise

  5. Alderaan Destruction - Mottis footsteps were used for the previous scene featuring the death star view screen (part of this sequence is put into the Battle of Yavin Sequence) Music Cue incorrect and Death Star firing Sequence missing sound for some of The Gunner Operators pulling Levers and “Stand By” voice over announcement absent.

  6. The Death Star Core - When Leia Shoots the Storm Trooper that slumps on the ground the Audio for falling on the floor is found in the Original Theatrical Trailer.

  7. Vader & Kenobi Duel - Just Before Obiwan Get’s the Chop the sound of the 2 Lightsabers Briefly Kissing is Absent although Flashes are Present. There is a bit in the middle like this also sound missing for the kisses.

  8. On the shot of the Falcon escaping the Deathstar flying towards camera the Death Star in the Background The music cut’s off Abruptly. A shot was pinched from this part and used for the Falcon Flying away from the Death Star Trench that was in the Theatrical Version replaced in the Special Edition. I am still yet to try it but I am pretty shure it’s a missing 2 seconds music and booster sound but I saw a version of the precceding shot with some omninous green flashes around the death star in a documentary so there could be a bit more to the sequence but not all that much. i.e it’s possible it was planned that the Death Star turrets around the Hanger let a couple of shots off before the Falcon got intercepted by the Tie Fighters.

  9. When the x-wing has the Hatched closed before Luke Takes off with Voice over from Ben Kenobi. The sound of the Hatch Closing and being sealed can be heard in the Radio Drama.

  10. Falcon Landing in Death star Hanger (tractor beam) - Siren from trailer was possibly planned at some point as the troops congregate around the ship.

There could be a few more, this is the current list and discovery compiled but this is I hope a helpful list of Alternate and Missing Audio either way.

Sorry I don’t mean to bombard you with posts but this is quite interesting I think…

So this shot on the Hanger escape was originally from the detention block shoot out.

Once they run down the corridor an argument ensues about blowing this control panel up!

But there is a shot of storm troopers saying “they went that way” with the panel not damaged at all.

Have you ever seen any stills as there would seem to be some alternate footage for this small part / or it was edited differently at some point? It might be shuffled footage order? It might just come after the shot of the storm trooper saying “They went that way” Door Panel Explodes Gag ensues about it?

It’s not a suggestion but for the sake of the actors performances it’s a small thing but explains the whole argument in the corridor and would make the Gag make a lot more sense 😃

Strange the Panel destruction was moved to the hanger escape part though… The Stupidity of blowing the panel up is pretty important for the Gag argument, It’s like making a joke without the reference to what happened.

For all the “Star Wars was saved in editing” Talk I would go 50/50 on such statements.

Other than that…

Correct Color Grading? There is a trading card with this greener look and I have to say I much prefer it to the way it looks in the film.

This Shot is flipped Horizontally. It makes a lot more sense flopped with the planet on the left and the guy on the right… But It’s your decision what you want to do about that one…

Rough Example with more orange Planet

Here is something I was playing around with.

Why would it make “more sense” ?

Because when we see the ships flying in space the planet is on their left heading towards us.

So Taking off the planet is on the wrong side and the guy in the tower matches the concept we also see him on this side earlier in the film… But that is how I kind thought about it simply because the planet is wrong side on take off. All roads leaded to concluding that shot was flipped. So think of it as the edge of a ball so when we go towards it it’s edge is on the left but when heading towards camera the edge is in fact on the right.

But also the fact it looked nothing like the planet we see in space was bugging me so I tried to make it more orange. But I think it also takes into account the sun angle.

I suppose if you took it back to the original Theatrical shot you could say the moon was missing and it was meant to be night.

ok but I figured it depended on where they took off from, and it matched the concept art which the shot was based on. And the Sun angle. Or perhaps I just got it messed up in my Head…

I am just not happy with either the special edition or the theatrical version on the Take off shot and I can’t figure out a way to make it something I really like.

The planet looks way better in the theatrical version I will say that much.

They actually flipped the trees for the SE, I guess for lighting reasons, but it still doesn’t seem to match the lighting on the guy or the ships.

it’s way beyong my skill level but my ideal version is either original theatrical background with Special edition ships.

Or…

flipped original background like concept art and perhaps new ships travelling right to left and up to keep continuity.

But I much prefer the dusk look to the original Not sure if the project members would be up for a mish mash or mix up but if I could do it that is what i would go for. It don’t look right the special edition.
