My question is, has anyone successfully downloaded the movie through an app on their phones and been able to view the movie? Or am I better off doing it through a computer?

Hi JaySway,

Welcome to the forum!

First off, I’ve noticed that the manual download version tends to to be more problematic for people than the multi-rar version. If all else below fails, I’d try downloading it instead.

That said, sticking with what you already have, in my humble opinion, you’ll be much better off extracting the file on a laptop or desktop computer. My experience is that they still handle extraction of large files a lot better than mobile devices. Once that is done, you’ll have the film as a really big MKV file.

Now, it can be a bit of a headache to try to play an MKV file on a phone.

However, if that’s a problem, there’s still a pretty simple way around it. If the computer you use to extract the MKV is a Windows machine, there is a free program called “Kirara”. (I don’t know if it will work on a Mac.) What it does is to change the MVK container to MP4. It’s very quick, because it doesn’t have to re-encode the file. More like taking a book out of a dust jacket and putting it into a different cover, rather than re-writing the book.

Once that’s done, it will be in an MP4 format that’s pretty easy for most phones to read. Just transfer the finished file back to the phone with a USB cable.

The link below will get you to the download page for “Kirara”. The link you want on that page will be near the top of the page, between two banners. Ignore the stuff about “ShanaEncoder” below it.

Here’s the link to the software download page.

And here’s a good Kirara tutorial video.

Best of luck!

Would the guide to the multi-rar version be found in the intro guide?

I don’t have an answer for you about your phone (I don’t know if you managed to get the whole movie, if you have space to extract it, if it even extracted to a file, if you have the means to play it back, etc). But yes, you should use a computer. If you did manage to download all of the parts, just transfer them over to a computer to extract them. You can worry about trying to play back the file on a phone later, but you might need or want to convert it first.

Yep.

The “How-To Guide”, so to speak is here:

Hi all.

I finished my multi-day download only to find an error extracting 2.7. According to the file verification page, the movie file size checks out, but the md5 is wrong.

I have already tried to repair the files with the command line tool ‘rar’ but there is apparently no ‘data recovery record’ in the files. Also, JDownloader doesn’t show that the hoster is providing any checksums.

Can anyone post checksums (csv, md5 or sfv) for the 21 individual downloads, or pars (say, 2%) for the completed file? I’d hate to spend another three days downloading all the parts.

Thanks

I’d be willing to get that for you. I’ll have to download them myself, since I was happy with 2.5 and don’t have 2.7 on hand. But if you can wait a day or two, I can get the MD5 info to you via PM.

Shall I do that?

That would be great.

Is the PM system the private topics? I have md5’s ready to go. I can also post them in this topic.

I’ll work on it some tomorrow.

It would seem to me that it might be more beneficial for you if I send you hashes from files that I can confirm are functioning properly, rather than you sending me info on files that may or may not be working.

What do you think?

I’ll send the MD5 hashes as soon as I get the 2.7 rars downloaded. Does that sound OK to you?

Edit: Oh, and yes, PM stands for “Private Message”. The “Private Topics” are the threads into which those messages are organized. And I’d prefer to send hash lists there to avoid adding excess clutter to the main threads.

Hello all.

I’ve talked a few times before about wanting to archive the older versions of the Despecialized Editions a few times before. See here and here for the beginnings of the two exchanges I recall.

Now, with the help of a generous member here, who is also a myspleen user in good standing, I have been able to get most of what I was looking for. He has been downloading the old files from myspleen, then posting them temporarily to mega.nz so I can also obtain them.

However, according to him, the SW 1.0 DVD5 has no seeders. And he can’t seem to find anything about any 1.0 MKVs at all. So my questions are as follows:

  1. Does anyone here still have a copy of the SW 1.0 DVD5, who would also be willing to seed that myspleen torrent?

  2. Were there ever 1.0 MKVs of any of the films? I seem to remember that there was at least an ROTJ 1.0 MKV, before the 2.5 version was released in 2016. And if there were 1.0 MKVs to any of the three films…

  3. Would someone be willing to put them on myspleen long enough for the person helping me to get them as well?

To be clear, this is not a request for access to myspleen directly. I know the invite system is no longer in place, I don’t think I’d be very open to seeding, and I doubt I’d have much interest in it after I get all the old DEEDs anyway.

But if anyone is willing and able to help out, I’d appreciate it.

Thanks again to the user already assisting me and thanks in advance to anyone else for your help!

The actual 1.0 releases were avchd. I’m sure many people made mkvs, which is easily done without reencoding. That’s how I watched them. But if you’re preserving the avchd, you’re preserving the originally released audio and video streams. You can remux them if you want, but probably don’t need to download someone else’s file and worry about if they re encoded anything.

Huh. My memory is playing tricks on me then. I thought for sure I remembered seeing ROTJ 1.0 MKV links on the official tehparadox page back in 2015 when that was still the official hub. But if it was never posted in that form by Harmy, I won’t worry about it. I’m not interested “preserving” something that was never really there in the first place. 😉

Thanks for the information!

Perhaps there was an exception for Jedi after much time passed where it was the only one without an MKV release? I didn’t think so, though.

There was also the very short lived Jedi 2.0 (beta) and if I’m not mistaken, 2.5 was out by late 2015.

Yeah, I remember 2.0 as well, but that was not what I was thinking of. I always knew that was a work print and not really intended for wide release.

I’m going to chalk this one up to mental error.

As Leonard Shelby, in Memento once aptly said: “Look, memory can change the shape of a room; it can change the color of a car. And memories can be distorted. They’re just an interpretation, they’re not a record. And they’re irrelevant if you have the facts”.

For just that particular detail, however, actually, nope, it wasn’t.

But I need to quit derailing the thread and let it get back to SW.

Yeah, looks like it was just the workprint.

And I did end up being able to find the SW 1.0 DVD5, so thank you all!

Of note, while DVD5 versions have been approved of by Harmy, and in some cases I believe given access to higher quality video elements to compress from, they were generally not produced by Harmy himself. So DVD5s and the like you might be able to consider as a stretch goal, with the core goal of getting all Harmy produced files being much more attainable.

Also of note, while all of V1.0 was released as AVCHD, I think Jedi was not in an .iso container, which might be the difference about it you guys are trying to remember.

It seems he’s just a kid and English may not be his first language. I’m sure he meant well but he kept commenting on every single one of the pictures in my ESB comparison albums saying variations of:
“This Shot Needs To Replace With 35mm Print Scan (Team-1) or Poita’s 35mm 4k scan For The Empire Strikes Back Despecialized v2.5”

and he kept at it even after I replied a few times with:

“I know you’re probably trying to be helpful here but all you’re doing is spamming my email (I get a notification every time someone comments) because I know very well which shots need to be replaced using 35mm sources - all of them. There’s no reason to use old standard definition sources in the new versions any more and all shots need to be redone, since the next versions will be 1080p.”

So, I ended up blocking him from commenting.
