I found it half laughable half disgusting but it wasn’t painfully out of place like Leias return from space death scene
This is starting to smell like an epic trolling event.
Where were you in '77?

When I saw that scene my first thought was that she was force pulling herself to the ship. Why any SW fan would think it was something else is beyond me.

No man I totally get that that’s what they were going for. It’s simply utterly ridiculous

Agreed. Plus the classic theme was a nice touch.
when i saw the scene my first thought was “how the heck is she alive?”
It’s possible to survive in space. No one complained about Dave surviving in a vacuum after he set off his explosive bolts in 2001.
I would put this in my sig if I weren’t so lazy.
i’ve never seen 2001 and i bet i’d complain about that.
You can survive direct exposure to vacuum provided you exhale as much as possible before decompression. Otherwise your lungs’ll rupture.

People have survived being exposed to the vacuum of space before. Also remember that she is surrounded by the air that got blown out of the ship, which she could have subconsciously kept around her using the Force.
What really strains credulity is someone surviving three of their limbs being hacked off and being barbecued beside a river of lava, or literally being cut in half and falling down a bottomless shaft.
Force users are weird like that.
You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.

Also known as Mr. Liquid Jungle.

Kubrick had scientists on the production to make sure it was as realistic as possible.
To be sure, Dave knew damn well what he was doing was dangerous and that he very well could’ve died. But it’s not a foregone conclusion.

I don’t have a problem with the scene conceptually, but something about it just feels, “Over the top,” if you will. Like I understand why they made it look like a tribute to Carrie Fisher before, “Surprise!” she’s still alive, but it doesn’t sit well in my stomach, as irrational as it may be.

No, Star Wars is drunk.

IMO the ‘Space Leia’ scene is problematic, because it is heavily switching between movie genres and their specific rules. The overall genre of the STAR WARS movies is science-fantasy. But the movie event of being sucked into space belongs mainly to the science-fiction genre. Being sucked into space is very well ‘documented’ in lots of sci-fi movies and even the dumbest movie-goer knows what happens to a character/person by that event. The rules are clear. But Rian Johnson tries to solve that science-fiction problem with the rules of the science-fantasy genre, let’s say magic, namely the Force. And that is why the scene does not work.
Rogue One is redundant. Just play the first mission of DARK FORCES.
The hallmark of a corrupt leader: Being surrounded by yes men.
‘The best visual effects in the world will not compensate for a story told badly.’ - V.E.S.
‘Star Wars is a buffet, enjoy the stuff you want, and leave the rest.’ - SilverWook
Most movie depictions of exposure to a vacuum are complete baloney. Human beings aren’t water balloons. And movie rules are not etched on some stone tablets somewhere.
And again, Guardians Of The Galaxy doesn’t get the crap TLJ does over doing essentially the same thing. And don’t tell me that’s a hard sci-fi movie.

yeah but when people get sucked into space after an explosion in Star Wars, they die.

Not sure that is a rule. in fact i am sure there are examples of both survival and death.
JEDIT: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JZTZQgBKGKg (no explosion, but comparable all the same)

example?
edit: and even if so, evidence they died instantly and couldn’t have survived if they could’ve used the force or some other tactic to pull themselves to safety?

There’s literally only one example of this in the films (ROTS) an that is not what happens. You’re making up a rule that doesn’t exist.
well, if characters were to survive after an explosion and getting sucked to space, space battles would have no tension at all. not when force users are the pilots at least.
i do recall a clone wars episode where plo koon and three clones survive outisde for a very short period of time - and they explicitly say that plo koon survives because of the mask he uses and that the clones survive because of their armor.
and the kanan example shared above lasts for basically 5-10 seconds, and you can clearly see that he was almost, well, freezing to death already. i was under the impression leia was floating in space for a couple of minutes at least.

No one is surviving a direct hit on a light fighter. This is different. A large space with many people. She was away from the windows. And so what if it was an anomaly. People unbelievably survive catastrophic accidents all the time in real life too.
Edit: also, IIRC, the sequence was not a couple minutes.
