That’s should probably be Dek’s avatar rather than Ash’s. Otherwise, pretty accurate depiction.

Dek is in it you just don’t see his Avatar he’s the guy who is walking passed at he last frame.

I should watch some Ghibli. They’re beloved classics. Then again, so is Disney, and I think they’re pretty uninteresting.

Many of my friends keep recommending this one series called My Hero Academia or something, so that one item is on the closest thing I have to an anime watchlist.

Speaking of anime with a sci-fi plot, today I bought Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. Partly interested because I love the original movie, partly because the series is from Kenji Kamiyama, director of the fantastic Star Wars: Visions short The Ninth Jedi. Anyway, that’s on my watchlist.

Currently I’m working my way through Jujutsu Kaisen.

I respect Kamiyama and Aramaki but i still haven’t seen season 3 and 4 of SAC. The change from 2D animation to 3D that looks like a PS2 cutscene was jarring. Its the same reason i’m having trouble getting into Blade Runner Black Lotus.

I love how this thread started out as an excuse to make fun of anime, but now it’s been revived with actual anime recommendations. The pandemic really did wonders for the anime community.

Oh god, I didn’t know this. I’ve never seen 3D animation in the anime style which doesn’t look terrible to me. Trailer for Black Lotus included.

I believe 2D is far better-looking and much more affordable. No idea what the deal is with a bunch of animation directors switching to 3D. A recent Studio Ghibli film experimented with 3D and I really don’t think it looks any good. Maybe it’s the novelty of it that’s appealing.

There’s this obscure anime from the 1980s called Akū Daisakusen Srungle that I really want to watch. I vividly recall seeing a handful of episodes on a regional TV channel, but about twenty years later I googled with some trial and error, and found out not all episodes were dubbed for the Latin American broadcast, and furthermore those few episodes were heavily edited due to its violent content and occasional female nudity, thus leaving Latin American audiences with an incomprehensible mess.

A YouTube channel uploaded the entire series but it was taken down (copyright claim, I guess), but even then it wasn’t very helpful as all episodes were in its original Japanese language with no English subtitles.

I really wish I could find the whole series with English subtitles. It’s probably a crappy anime, but still, I would like to see whole thing all the way through.

I haven’t seen Earwig and the Witch, the 3D really didn’t interest me. Goro Miyzaki did direct Up on Poppy Hill which i very much liked. But he also directed tales of Earthsea which i haven’t finished watching. He directed Ronja the robbers daughter which was cgi animation and a tv series which i also haven’t seen.

As of right now, the only Mamoru Hosoda film I have seen is Wolf Children. I want to watch his other films sometime.

I need to rewatch everything he did and see his latest film Belle. It seems like it been ages since he directed Mirai which is the last one of his films i watched.

I still haven’t seen Boy and the Beast, but i recommend Girl Who Leapt Through Time and Summer Wars.

also waiting for some of Shinkai Makoto’s films to be reissued on blu so they aren’t a million dollars to purchase. also for his new film to be released.

I thought Belle was pretty excellent. Almost too much plot going on but in some ways, that’s a nice problem to have. And visually, just incredible, too.

Shenmue the Animation.

https://youtu.be/ybkgsZU18sk

It’s based on a cult video game series of the same name from the late 90’s and early 00’s that went through years of development hell until Shenmue III finally got made after a successful Kickstarter pledge and was released in 2019. I highly recommend the games. The anime for it from all that I’ve glimpsed looks as though it truly captures the spirit of what I felt all those years ago.

“Heroes come in all sizes, and you don’t have to be a giant hero. You can be a very small hero. It’s just as important to understand that accepting self-responsibility for the things you do, having good manners, caring about other people - these are heroic acts. Everybody has the choice of being a hero or not being a hero every day of their lives.” - George Lucas
