I will echo some of the thoughts about Dark Forces II. No “Darth Badguy” names. Villains with weird powers and even blue lightsabers. The whole vertical city setting. It’s probably aged really badly but it was the most exciting thing I’d ever seen when it was new. The dark side ending was so cool.

Well the graphics are now completely outdated. However, the introductory cut-scene for Nar Shaddaa is still great.

Some guys reconstructed original Dark Forces in Jedi Academy and it was great. I am not aware of any similar successful project for Dark Forces II.

Without any hesitation :

1- The Bounty Hunter Wars
2- The Han Solo Adventures

Don’t like the X-Wings Series…

I loved Dark Forces II, the Thrawn Trilogy, I, Jedi, and Jedi Knight II. I never really got into the Jedi Academy game.

The Yuzan Vong stuff kind of lost me. I think that’s when I stopped reading EU stuff.

I really liked the first book in A. C. Crispin’s Han Solo Trilogy. I wish the last two books lived up to it.

This will sound blasphemous, but I really enjoy The New Jedi Order, even though I’m only halfway through at the moment, I can safely say it’s a pretty good series, unless the other ten books in the series suck hard.

The size of it makes me never want to go near it.

I read the first five or six. I liked those well enough except for the Stackpole ones, but the length of the series was ultimately too much to keep me on board as well.

The NJO is the SW equivalent of Crisis on Infinite Earths. The villains suck, lots of characters die for nothing, and it only leads to worse storylines down the road.

Yes…the vong were the shit stain that destroyed everything.

At least with “imperial warlord number 1235” you can downplay them in your mind. Hell the reborn movement was the “new empire” for a long time before “crystal star” came…now hardly anyone remembers them.

Not the vong…they literally dug their claws into everything. Turning palpatine into a revan wannabe(he wanted to save the galaxy from the vong). Thrawn became this vong hunter and his people became the sworn enemy of the vong. The only Vong related thing that worked out was the legacy comic and how racial tensions led to the rise of a new fascist galactic government

I just read “Rebel Rising” about Jyn Erso. Not horrible, it kind of helped make some of the characterizations in R1 make sense.

“The old EU is true canon!” I said as I cried into my Darth Revan body pillow.

EDIT: In hindsight, this might have come across as a mean-spirited jab at Lucky. If so, that wasn’t intentional: it was just a dumb joke that popped into my head.

Man, don’t worry about making mean spirited jokes towards me; they’re my favourite type of jokes.

I read Darth Bane: Path of Destruction and I really loved it. I flew through it in three days, which I rarely do with books.

I realise that it seems that I always bag the new canon and endlessly praise the Legends continuity, but I honestly don’t have any bias against the new canon. I actually love Lost Stars, Bloodline and The Force Awakens, but not much else has really grabbed me. On the other hand, most of the Legends material I’ve read I’ve been really invested in, and I find myself reading much more of those than the canon line of books.

Well there are more Legends books than canon ones.

Wondering if there are epubs of them and if there’s any specific timeline in which they’re set. More for certain books taking place before or after or I dunno.
Have all the current EU books on my phone, I think.

The LEGENDS comics are decent, especially from Dark Horse and more specifically the Infinities imprint. Included in that is THE STAR WARS. Would be interesting to see the current Disney/Marvel Comics have an imprint where it takes the original idea when Gary Kurtz was still onboard prior to RotJ and it would’ve been Episodes IV-XII. Better covered in The Complete Star Wars Annotated Screenplays.

There are epubs available of pretty much everything from Legends. Most of the audiobooks are heavily abridged, though, which is a bummer.

Where to start…? I grew up with the Star Wars video games like Shadows of the Empire, Rebel Assault 2, Jedi Knight (live action cutscenes were amazing to me), to Jedi Outcast, KOTOR, original Clone Wars to Force Unleashed. I enjoyed just about all of it honestly.
I currently own about 130 EU novels. I’m sure I’ll never get through all of them. I love the X-wing series, Shadows of the Empire, Republic Commando, I even enjoyed most of Fate of the Jedi. Haven’t read NJO or LOTF, but I plan to. I’ve even started scratch building a 31inch model of Darth Caedus’ flag ship Anakin Solo.
My favourite character from all EU would have to be Ulic Qel-Droma. I first heard of him from the Clone Wars game. Pretty cool seeing this old Force Ghost helping you defeat this ancient Sith weapon. I’ve gone back and read most of the comics, though I have to admit they’re not the best written. Lots of cheese. But I still like that era and those characters.
More recently I’ve grown really attached to Ben Skywalker through the FOTJ stuff. Which only pisses me off more knowing that we will never get more official material of him or Jaina, etc.
I’m sure I missed something. But that’s a start.

This is actually kind of silly, at least from a canon perspective so maybe it belongs in the other thread, but I just find it amusing that the Shaggy look-alike from the original Clone Wars cartoon is actually named Sha’a Gi

Yeah that was intentional, as he was modelled on Shaggy.

The Shadow Guard in The Force Unleashed. I wish Snoke, Palpatine, or both used them in Episodes 7-9.
