Convenient.

You could always create your own “Last Feature-Length-Movie-That-Doesn’t-Run-Under-an-Hour Seen” thread if you’re so anal that you can’t stand to see a few short films listed.

I don’t know who she is, but she has a screenplay index.

The Picture of Dorian Gray, which just so happens to be the face of my avatar. (BUT the movie I watched was the 1973 one, so technically it’s not, but that’s irrelevant)

When’s something gonna happen?

Then Superman III and Superman IV are… ignored.

Yeah, they weren’t as good as the first two, even though in the theatrical cut of Superman II Non sounds like a bear.

Eh, I like Superman III. The humour is only humourous in how unhumourous it is, but Annette O’Toole’s Lana is a better love interest than Margot Kidder’s Lois, Clark’s characterization is better, and the “Evil Superman vs. Good Clark” fight is nothing short of perfection. Those qualities are enough to make III my favourite of the series.

Superman III has its moments. The Evil Superman elements are without a doubt the strongest thing it has to offer. It’s not abysmally awful like Superman IV, but I enjoyed it for what it is. It does nothing to subvert sequelitis, though.

I have to admit this scene is nightmare fuel. 😉

But you still have to suffer really dumb scenes like this.

I saw Superman III on a double feature with Wargames back in '83. Which is interesting as both movies revolve around computer hacking.

Still trying to fathom how Superman has to lose his powers before he can sleep with Lois, but evil Supes can fool around. 😛

I mean, I haven’t seen the movie, but both gifs just look like some fun goofy humour. I doubt it’s the kind of movie to take seriously (if judging by the first two and four, which I have seen).

Not enough people read the EU.

Nightcrawler (2014)

It was great! There were a few genuinely shocking moments.

I think my only real complaint would be the soundtrack not really ‘fitting’ a lot of the scenes. Cliff Martinez would have done great here.

Unlike the original film, the humor is all over the map. The film doesn’t know whether to be light hearted or self parody. And Clark Kent’s former high school rival being a mean drunk one can imagine slapping old flame Lana Lang around is really out of place. It’s a wonder evil Superman didn’t sneak off to Smallville, kill him, and make it look like an accident. 😉

What did you think about the different cuts?

The Donner cut was better — up until the end. I would’ve given it 6/10 if it wasn’t for that stupid ending.

What basically happened was, from what I understand, that they were going to use the “spin the Earth” ending for II. Once they realized it’d work better for the first film, they moved it, figuring that they’d figure something out when they got to II, but once Donner got canned, that’s all they had to fall back on.

Collipso said:

wait, so could a very kind superman fan explain to stupid old me the different cuts available for the movies and all that?

As short as possible version: The producers, the Salkinds, hired director Richard Donner because he was the flavor of the month, having come off of a hit horror film called The Omen. Donner had artistic aspirations, whereas the Salkinds were in it purely for the money. Donner brought in his own screenwriter to completely rewrite their (according to him, completely unworkable) script. Superman and Superman II were shot back-to-back as a mega production; Donner finished about 70% of the second film before locking it to finish production on the first film. It wound up being the most expensive movie ever made up to that time. It was a big box office and critical hit, but the Salkinds didn’t want to deal with Donner again, so they unceremoniously fired him, and brought in director Richard Lester to work on the sequels. Lester reshot a bunch of Donner’s scenes as well as new scenes for II to qualify for a director’s credit, so there’s tons of extra footage. Years later, they did the best they could to reconstruct Donner’s cut. There’s also an extended cut of the first film, supervised by Donner, and a TV version with a lot of extra scenes. And presumably fan edits and deleted scenes.

There’s a lot more to this-what is who’s footage, who shot what, etc.-that’s seeped into film fan lore, but this is the basic gist of it.

“What Orwell feared were those who would ban books. What Huxley feared was that there would be no reason to ban a book, for there would be no one who wanted to read one.”

Yeah, spinning the Earth was the ending to II, but they had to rush Part I to release, so they put that ending in the script for I. The Donner Cut of II was just Donner reassembling the original script for II, which hadn’t had the ending replaced since Donner never got around to that during production.
