Freddie Got Fingered is awful. I can’t think of any film off the top of my head that I’d rather not watch.

What possessed you to say that?

I was possessed by Possessed to mention Possessed.

THE SUN RACES THROUGH A BLUE SKY FILLED WITH WHITE CLOUDS.
THE WAYS OF HIS HEART ARE MUCH LIKE THE SUN. SONIC RUNS AND RESTS; THE SUN RISES AND SETS.

Yeah, I don’t think ROTS is “generally considered ‘bad’” in the sense that something like Freddy Got Fingered is considered bad.

Yeah that’s what I meant when I said I didn’t know if the consensus is that it’s bad or just not good. A better word for the latter would be mediocre.

I thought it was boring compared to its predecessors, and occasionally fell into moments of self-parody, but it’s not terrible or anything. Half-hearted is an apt description.

It’s a pretty ugly looking movie.

Not to mention it tries to be different, but it’s too scared to not be familiar, so it fails at doing the new stuff, and it fails at doing the old stuff.

Me neither. It’s not like the SW Prequels where I appreciate them, but understand they have problems. With KotCS, I genuinely don’t see the problem.

what’s so ugly about it? i mean, sure, this

is pretty fucking gross, but i don’t see why it looks bad.

Would you let your son play catch with that man? Yeah, I thought as much. That’s why.

It just looks so drab and dull. Not to mention fake. And computer fake looks real fake. With how inspired the original films were visually, it just sucks.

I remember going to an Indiana Jones marathon back before the Blu-ray release, and the theater announced that they’d give out prizes at the end. Someone shouted, “Does that mean we have to watch Crystal Skull?” Much laughter was had. Sure, nothing can compare to Raiders, but when it can’t offer anything to make you want to even watch it, maybe there’s something about it that just doesn’t stack up.

This, although it’s obviously the least of the four (so I get the hate to an extent, but it’s waaaaaay over the top).

I guess the question becomes why it had to be made in the first place. No one seemed to want to make it, and we didn’t enjoy the results.

It was in the works for two decades. There was an interest there for awhile. And they’re making another one.

You didn’t enjoy the results.

Oh. I’m cautiously optimistic for Indy 5, but I’m not really sure it’ll be anything above merely decent.

Well, sure, but no one ever says, “OH boy! I can’t wait to watch Kingdom of the Crystal Skull! It’s my favorite Indy movie!”

The range of reactions tend to top off at mild enjoyment, going toward indifference, and ending at vile rage. But no one ever seems to really love it.

I think it’s hard to know at this point, but I’m always optimistic for a new Spielberg, and dammit if I don’t want to see more Indy.

There are a lot of movies out there that people enjoy but don’t necessarily love. Just seems weird that you have an attitude like “it shouldn’t even exist.”

by the way, i totally disagree here. Spielberg once said, and i quote “it’s a blood relative to the other three pictures”. so while i think the first part of your post is right, i disagree completely with the second.

I think my attitude is, “Why does it exist?”

It just seems like such a wasted opportunity.

Why do you disagree?

because i think it feels exactly like an older indy would: some stuff is different, naturally, but it’s still indiana jones at its core. i do agree that it’s the weakest of the 4, and that shia lebouf was probably miscasted. i don’t mind the cg though.

Author

Fair enough. I think Indy as a character is alright in it. The crux of the problems are in the story, and the execution of said story. Though, the double/triple agent guy kind of made Indy look like a doofus, and I don’t think he’d ever get married.
