Solo: A Star Wars Story — Official Review and Opinions Thread — SPOILERS — Page 5

Maybe since the idea of organic/droid relationships was floated in the old Marvel comics more than once, it’s not bothering me at all. And Lucasfilm always had veto power over the comic storylines, (screams in the void posted about that in the SW Marvel thread recently) so one can infer they were okay with it back then.

Considering what lengths they went to to prove that L3 doesn’t “serve” Lando and he’s not her “master” as the case usually is, I don’t see much issue with it. It’s somewhat ambiguous too whether those two actually did it (L3 could’ve with someone else).

Also, L3 is the best character and whether you were happy or sad to see her go is my new litmus test for whether we’re going to get along.

She’s definitely the best new character in the film. I want to say I prefer her to K2 but I feel like we don’t spend enough time with her for me to really be confident about that (really want to read Last Shot now).

If nothing else, she’s further proof that the droids in these films are consistently some of the best characters overall.

If the inevitable Lando movie is set before Solo we might see more of her.

It’s iffy whether a droid’s brain can’t just be transplanted into a working body. Threepio got blasted at point blank range and didn’t die. Or did L3 take a shot to the head?

Wait, you guys REALLY liked the droid? Am I the only one who was glad when she was finally destroyed?

Of course I liked the droid. I adored Phoebe Waller-Bridge on Fleabag and the idea of a droid revolutionary is an interesting angle that we haven’t seen.

That said, I’d rather have a Lando movie set later and have him with Lobot.

I’m of the opinion Lobot was at Cloud City before Lando won it.

In a movie called Solo it’s saying a lot…

(L3 is the best SW character since Jar Jar Binks)

Not canonically, they’re already buddies in the Lando comic miniseries.

What can I say? I like sassy female robots. 😉

And let’s not forget the inspiration for our favorite protocol droid.

I get the impression that L3 is going to be a mini-TLJ of sorts, where most people either love her or hate her.

Just for the record, I thought she was ok, though she did borderline on annoying. I liked her droid-revolution, and her introduction was fun, but in the in-between Falcon scene(s) she just got too weird and nagging for my taste. I guess they wanted to make good use of the character before she got killed off, whereas K2 got to be spread out over the whole movie so his odd personality didn’t feel as over-the-top.

On a side note, I’m glad she was done as a mostly practical effect. K2 look good, but L3 had more of a “physical presence” in my opinion.

There seems to be a trend here.

  • If you liked TLJ, you didn’t like SOLO.

  • If you disliked TLJ, you liked SOLO.

Only a Sith deals in absolutes, of course, so there’s going to be some people who hate and like both, but I’ve a feeling it’s going to mostly correspond with what I’ve posted above.

Has anybody besides Mala said that they liked TLJ and hated Solo? I’m only seeing “liked both”, “hated TLJ but liked Solo”, and “hate everything, why am I even still here”.

I loved TLJ, but only liked Solo.

I would be one of those people, though I was not explicit about it.

Mind blown!

I was disgusted by the politics in TLJ, but liked how the movie looked. I was confused by Solo, I didn’t hate it, I didn’t love it. There were PARTS of the movie I really enjoyed and parts of the movie I absolutely hated.

I sorta understand the boring complaints, but yeah. Then again, there is very little star wars that I dislike.

I liked The Last Jedi, mostly because of Mark Hamill, but loved Solo, mostly because of Chewbacca, Beckett and Lando, it was way more fun.

Chewie was great, I loved the first scene he and Han had together. I’d say that part of the movie was done by the original directors

Just saw SOLO … I loved it! A very entertaining space adventure with likeable known and likeable new characters. And thank god no distracting fan service like Rogue One. Maul as a crime boss? Yes, why not. Just his lightsaber force pull was unnecessary.

8/10

I want to see more SOLO movies 😃

Rogue One is redundant. Just play the first mission of DARK FORCES.

This film is tracking poorly. I wonder how much of that is bad PR, how much is TLJ carryover, how much is fatigue and how much is people just not caring about this film?

Worry what it will do to future stand-alone, let alone a SOLO sequel.

You mean that the heavy and dumb fanservice wasn’t distracting this time ?

(I love the fact that Lando’s guard outift of RotJ is just a costume in his garde-robe from the past… oh did I say I loved it ? No, sorry, I meant it was lame fanservice)

(and the detonator reference after 5 minutes…)

(and every 5 minutes, a recycled line from the OT…)

(this movie… seriously…)
