Would you be offended if I used a cantaloupe after I get the blu rays?

NO CANTALOUPE!!

Seriously though, only new members to the site need to prove they’ve got the blu-ray. Though since you have admitted that you don’t yet…

I only have not gotten it yet is because of college

Man dorms have really strict rules these days.

if you think that is bad, wait till you hear about the woman’s

Not just the man dorms, but the women dorms and the children dorms too!

Neverar, I’m seeing some odd blur around the troopers (especially above their helmets) at about 51:54 to 51:56. During the “door’s locked, move on…” scene.

That’s almost certainly due to the temporal noise reduction in the original Blu-ray. The algorithm that was used often couldn’t handle an object moving against a static background, leading to the background getting ‘smeared’ around the moving object.

This issue is fairly ubiquitous throughout the film (examples that comes to mind are C-3PO trudging behind a dune and R2 moving down the canyon right before he’s shot), but it’s more noticeable here since I’ve brightened the image so much. There is actually one shot in which I fixed this issue, by rotoscoping in detail around R2 from the SSE:

I’ll have to pop in the Blu Ray later, but I’m not seeing it in the broadcast of the 2004 version.

What’s the point of color correction if millions of fans don’t know how to download your releases?
So hard to upload on an outdoor torrent tracker and cloud storage?

The links are available to anyone who owns the Blu-ray and/or who is a part of this community - After working for years on this project, so I don’t feel like that is too much to ask for.

It’s definitely there on the German broadcast and the Blu-ray, but it’s not very noticeable since the brightness is so low.

(BTW, I just updated the comparison gallery through this part of the film, using only shots that have additional sources added to them. I’ll finish the whole gallery someday… 😉 )

I think there’s a new approach here of not being harsh/terrible to new members, even when they are rude and misinformed in their first few posts. Some might still end up banned, but giving them a chance has proven effective from what I’ve seen.

Not sure if that’s still going on or not. But there were a few people here with much more patience than me that were undertaking the responsibility of gently and politely telling people why we do things the way we do, and pointing them in the right direction.

Here’s my best effort: there is a reason for the methods we use. These projects often take members here hundreds of hours, so they can be a bit touchy when a new person barges in with demands. These things are out there in public and people here can be extremely helpful when asked politely. Once you acquire the files, you are (in most cases) more than welcome to start up a public torrent or file locker upload (you are NOT permitted to post links to those things openly in this forum).

These things are not the responsibilities of the content creators, so please don’t act in an ungrateful way toward said creators. They don’t even need to share these things with the community at all, let alone the outside world.

I respect you position and your thoughtful response Towne, but it keeps happening.

I have no issues with noobs asking questions but there should be penalties for rudeness to keep the forum conversations respectful. Zero tolerance I say.

It’s not necessarily my position, but the forum’s position is definitely not zero tolerance at the moment. That said, I have seen new members turn things around after a thoughtful/informative reply. Otherwise, they just become more irrational and inflammatory in response to kindness, and then they’re banned for sure. Seems like a logical way of dealing with things.

Great posts.

If a new member comes in the front door acting entitled, is asked to adjust their expectations and posting style, and continues acting the same way, they’ll almost certainly be banned if they don’t leave on their own.

Yeah, I think you’re right. you know where else I notice it? It 4k77! it has to be because of the brightness. Thanks, and sorry!

This shot was in the wrong hue… So I changed the hue realized you could color correct the sand.

Not sure it’s something you want to do? I think the shot is lovely as it is that you did but could perhaps be a small bit better? I just did this rough in gimp so I will let you decide on if you want to change it… Not saying this is how it should look either just a rough demo it can be better than this for sure.

You’ll notice the two grey things on the side of the hut pop when you hit the right hue…

I’m not generally sure what you’re referring to many times when you discuss hue. It seems vague or unclear.

Maybe if people want to do their own color corrections they might kindly start their own thread about it.

Yours looks like the sand and the sky are at two different parts of the day. Just because something CAN look more colourful, doesn’t mean it should. I don’t think you quite get what this project is.

Sorry I was trying to help if this is soley a recreation then I apologize.

Luke is purple if it looked like that originally fine… A bit knight rider I guess. Basically it seems to me that the sand and luke should be different, I already said not what I did, it was just to show what could be achieved with that shot. I was not attempting to revise what this guy done just pointing something out.

When I say it’s in the wrong hue I mean the particular shot has shifted out of hue into a incorrect hue. Like the pink jumpsuits at the battle of yavin.

As others have said, best for a new thread for that kind of thing. But I would also look into monitor calibration if you’re going to spend much time on this kind of stuff. No use spinning one’s wheels without it!

I’m pretty happy with the color as it is, and the few scenes I’ve tweaked for v2 are already done. But if you wanted to make your own alterations to the project, you’re certainly welcome to.

Thanks, No I don’t want to alter what you have done or interfere in your project or your goals.

I wanted to make you aware that this is one of those particular shots we have never seen look how it should look… I don’t mind people re-creating the look of the originals at all, but I do wish someone would go that extra step and well make the version we never seen before. It’s simply “meant” to look like a normal sunset nothing particularly radical, my feeling is something went wrong. You are more than capable have a play and you will see it for the first time. 😃

It does not mean it has to be part of your project or anyones project, but I find it interesting and it’s also most importantly fun…

So if you look at this example it’s more restoration than preservation, It corrects the weird color. Not sure anyone is up for doing this sort of thing though? This is no different than many other weird hue moments…

But I think your version would be a good place to incorporate these sorts of color fixes where it’s all way off. You seen it for the first time again! And I want to add you done a great deal to make the film look the way it should already… You are very much on the right track!

Anyway all I can say is I wish someone would go that extra mile on Restoration there are preservations everywhere and no restorations.

WE still have not seen this film, I mean that honestly.
