NK has always been trying to meet with US leaders. Trump is just the first to legitimize the Kim regime with an offer to meet.

Until they actually meet, NK has done nothing different than they’ve done a bunch of times before. The only difference so far is that the President said yes.

You mean aside from dismantling a nuclear test site, which satellite imagery shows they’re doing?

I’m not going to claim this is fact, but I swear that on one of the political podcasts I listen to they reported that the site was basically collapsing in on itself anyway so they just did it to get the brownie points.

Maybe 25 years of doing basically nothing got us…basically nothing. Other than a North Korean nuclear weapons program, of course.

Did I say Trump shouldn’t talk with them? I fully support it. One of the very few (possibly only) things I think he’s done right.

The negotiations will continue. I wouldn’t be surprised if these “cancellations” were prearranged.

You’re veering off into conspiracy talk there.

Although Trump is our first reality show / nothing is real / only ratings matter President, so what the hell, you’re probably right.

There are the public negotiations, and then there are the private negotiations over how the negotiations will be presented to the public and the rest of the world.

So diplomacy is the answer? Just not too much diplomacy?

All this is predicated on the notion that Donald Trump has any idea what he’s doing. He’s made clear time and time again that he does not understand any of the issues that he tweets about. I guarantee he couldn’t even name all three dictators that North Korea has had in its existence, or the terms of the ceasefire, etc. etc.

To be clear when I said this is the first thing he’s done correctly, that’s based on the assumption that someone else will actually be in charge of the negotiation and he’ll be playing golf with porn stars while it’s happening.

Even basic business negotiations involve setting the stage and making sure everyone comes out looking good. I’ve never been involved in a political negotiation, but I’m assuming the basic concepts are the same.

I’m sure the porn stars hope that too.

Have you been involved in basic business negotiation with the two craziest people on the planet?

Although that may be unfair to the North Korean guy I suppose. Not really sure.

Kim is likely more rational than Trump. Analysts believe that he is motivated by a desire to preserve his position as the dictator of North Korea. Trump, on the other hand, has proven time and time again that he is not motivated by any kind of rational goal.

Who’s doing the negotiations though? There are a lot of key diplomatic positions still vacant.

I know it’s funny and all and it’s a joke, but that video made me really angry. I’d be so pissed off if that happened to me. Not that I see doctors, but if I did I’d be really mad. It’s like how you can’t help but be furious at the warden in The Shawshank Redemption even though he’s a fictional character.

Yeah, this was a site that had already collapsed and killed over two hundred NK citizens.
Kim is just trying to make a concession that had already been conceded.

You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.

He’s just as qualified for that as for his current position I suppose.

Yeah, sure. Why not? He was brain surgeon after all. That makes for anything, I guess.

Theater. Admitting they’re dismantling it instead of claiming to be building it back up for the next test is what matters.
