Vader being Luke’s father turns it into a soap opera. Star Wars was mythic from the start and this seems to fit that pretty well, amongst other things. This is not a hard one to defend.

Vader states that it was a “crude” carbon-freezing chamber, implying that that specific machine was the issue.
Not to mention that it might still have been extremely dangerous when the characters of those stories did it.

Are you sure? “We use this facility for carbon freezing, you put him in there it might kill him” seems to indicate the carbon freezing is the issue.
It’s still a baffling complaint though because it never happens any other time in anything that matters.
Lando may not be familiar with the concept of putting a human in carbon freeze hibernation. Vader knows it can be done since he’s done it, but still wants to test it because of the “crude” facilities.
Perhaps standard human carbon freezing is done gradually, with proper medical apparati designed specifically for that purpose, to prevent cellular rupturing or whatever.

I hate the exhaust port complaint. People say that the Empire should’ve just covered it up, but that defeats the purpose of an exhaust port! It’s established that the port is tiny and apparently only someone with extreme propensity for the force can even hit it. Also, the port wasn’t what destroyed the Death Star. It was a chain reaction explosion caused by a torpedo making it all the way down the port and into the center of the space station. It isn’t like the exhaust port was a self-destruct button.
Agreed. The port was also ray shielded and the Rebels needed the plans to even be aware of it.

You didn’t know that John Boyega’s actually a white man?
No maybe that all the lead characters are still white (Rey, Kylo Ren, Luke, Jyn Urso). The racially diverse characters are pushed to side characters. And I should include the directors who have all been white men.
Don’t forget notable white man Kathleen Kennedy running the whole thing.
I’m not saying they’re perfect, but it’s an improvement. And yes I’d like to see more voices at the table, no question.
