I didn’t say there weren’t parts of the ROTK EE I liked, but on balance it’s not as good as the theatrical.

I’m not a huge fan of the Mouth of Sauron scene myself, but it’s mostly the extra stuff with Aragorn the ghost army that make me prefer the theatrical. It’s not just that, but that’s most of it.

You have a point. In ROTK EE the extra scenes really kill the pacing more than in the other two.

The army of the dead really does this. The Ents also. I mean, I love all the little bits of the story they add, but it doesn’t make a better movie.

I think it appeals to big fans of the books and the lore and the like. Probably more so than to filmgoers.

I am both a big fan of the book and a filmgoer. I’ve never actually seen the EEs. I like that the theatrical leaves out Saruman’s death. Lets me pretend he still did his whole Sharkey thing like at the end of the book.

I’ve only seen the extended versions of all three, and I love them all. Nothing in ROTK feels off or poorly paced to me, though of course I would probably have a more nuanced opinion if I had seen the theatrical version first. The one thing that I think shouldn’t be there is showing the dead accept his proposal.

It looks like I’m also going to get to see 2001 in 70mm, though I’m not sure what going on with it. My brother bought tickets for Friday at the Music Box, but then he found a place in Minnesota that is also screening it in 70mm, but I haven’t been able to talk to him again.

Okay it turns out the Minnesota showing is apparently on June 29th, and will be about a third the distance, so instead of going to Chicago twice, we’ll go see the three in Chicago and then go to the closer showing of 2001 later in the month. Sadly the tickets were non-refundable though, so he’s going to try and sell those off to hopefully get his 30 bucks back.

Man Thing . A movie of the Marvel Comics character and Swamp Thing like creature . They have not made it , or even announced that they are making it yet , but when they do , I will watch it .
