i’ve never read anything about any of the past celebrations, so i don’t know something that ought to be basic: do i need a ticket to get in or do i just show up and i’m good?

You need a pass. You can either get a day pass or one for the whole weekend. It’s essentially a convention like any given comic con, just entirely Star Wars.

Somehow I just got into an argument on Reddit about how Rey was the first female protagonist in Star Wars. One guy replied saying ‘Jyn Erso’, and another guy left this gem:

  1. Anakin is the main character of the saga, according to GL himself. The PT is the fall of Anakin. The OT is the rise and fall of Vader. The ST was intended to be the legacy of Vader but it feels more like a cash grab than anything.

  2. Leia is not a secondary character to Luke. Anyone who’s read even a single OT-era novel would know that if anything, Leia is more of a main character than Luke.

The guy then talked about Rey being a mary sue and then said this about me:

That comment has to be rage-bait and I’ve reported it as such.

I hate Reddit.

Leia more of a main character than Luke? Lol.

And more to the point, other than Leia, there’s like no female presence in the entire OT or PT.

(Don’t even get me started on Padme)

Reddit is often a bigger black hole than twitter. Why aren’t these cash grab people upset at Lucas for selling Star Wars in the first place?

She ok-ish in TPM.

In AOTC she doesn’t like Anakin and then suddenly she turns on a dime and loves him because they’re gonna be executed…I guess?

In ROTS she has some babies.

Not terribly compelling IMO.

You forgot dies of a broken heart, which the best medical technology can’t treat. 😉

i mean, thinking back on that scene, had lucas not given the robot that line saying that “she lost the will to live”, it would’ve been a fairly believable death.

Except we constantly see amazing medical technology on display in the saga, and they can’t keep a woman who’s just given birth from dying? It doesn’t help we then see a guy who should have died after catching fire next to a lava flow. burned over 100% of his body, who gets stuffed into a robotic iron lung and is up and walking in about an hour. 😛

As dumb as it may sound, will can affect survival. People (young even) have actually died due to emotional distress. It’s very rare, but they are usually in a weakened state when it happens. Pluss, tech in SW varies all the time depending on what the plot requires. And SW is basically a fantasy world with sci-fi tech instead of magic.

As far as I’m concerned the real issue with that scene is the lack of continuity with the OT.

I get she’s that bummed out about Anakin, but how about finding the will to live if only for your kids?

Yeah that’s essentially character assassination. If nothing else he’s portrayed as extremely strong willed in TPM and AOTC. I’d actually argue too that she’s pretty good in AOTC except for falling in love with Anakin (big exception, but still). Those movies would have been better if they focused on her POV more, honestly (TPM especially).

Is she really okay in TPM? I mean, she flirts with an 8 year old. Idk what the age of consent is on Tattooine, but I’ve always thought it was icky.

I wouldn’t go that far (flirting).

Yeah I’ve heard that interpretation before, but never really thought the movie totally supported it. At worst she has a “aw look at this cute lil boy” reaction to him, which I wouldn’t classify as flirting.

Him, on the other hand… but that’s less weird. The weirder thing is that they become a couple ten years later.

Oh, I agree it’s a weird scene and that she should have lived. I’m just saying it’s not technically impossible to die the way she did.

Does she technically “flirt” with Anakin in TPM? I wouldn’t even consider Anakin’s behaviour as being flirty, just really oddly expressed infatuation. Which makes sense for an eight years old kid.
