awesome stuff folks ! thanks for posting it , that Starlog interview was great and yeah ,Marvel did come close a lot , they even got a cease and desist when they wanted to do a second Death Star so they made The Tarkin battle station story in 51-52 instead . and as was posted earlier , the debut of the Hoojibs issue had Rebels on early Speeder Bikes , a few issues down the line the furry little Lahsbees on hang gliders etc …also , here is a forum I found where someone reviews every single issue …,do not agree with everything but we all have our opinions ,interesting read anyhow …enjoy …http://classiccomics.org/thread/1039/star-wars-marvel-reviews-confessor

Really enjoying this site - thanks. I’m up to the ‘Omega Frost’ reviews - which incidentally is where I started reading the series back in 1980. Unlike the reviewer I really dug the artwork, because it felt like a great combination of typical Marvel superhero stuff and Star Wars. So this holds great memories for me.

There’s an interesting ongoing concern in the thread about Ulrich Tagge and exactly who he is. I always assumed that Motti and Tagge had been reversed in the final film, meaning that Marvel was operating under the impression that Tagge had been strangled by Vader rather than Motti. That accounts for Ulrich looking like Motti.

you are welcome . I suppose I am a nerd as well although I do not feel bad about it as there are plenty of sports fans who do things like paint their faces up and wear foam cheese on their heads …glad you are enjoying and I thought the Omega frost story was where Infantino started to hit his stride on the art , also enjoyed his issues on the water world of Drexel that were inked by Terry Austin

The Drexel city ship is a concept I’d like to see in the movies.

I’m a big fan of the cover artwork done by Carmine Infantino, especially the ones done for Star Wars Weekly in the UK, but it always bugged me that it’s not possible to find the covers without the title, text boxes, bar-code, etc. as they never bothered to draw anything that would eventually be covered up anyway. So I decided to Photoshop away the text on some of my favourite covers.

Didn’t Marvel fans back in the 70’s request a Darth Vader vs Doctor Doom crossover or something like that?

They did in the letters column. Marvel politely dashed such hopes for legal reasons. I think it could happen now. 😉

Warlock and the Watcher in a galaxy far far away? Is Thanos seeking the Infinity Kyber?

Other U.S. Marvel books were serialized in the weeklies. The cover with mention of Star Lord and GOTG (although it was a different roster back then) amuses me no end. 😃

It could have been a great idea for an issue of Marvel’s non-canon What If? series.

Weird question, but do you have any idea of what issue they discussed this? Now I’m curious about those “legal reasons”.

I can’t recall the specific issue where a letter writer suggested Vader land in Latveria. I would think the language of whatever agreement Marvel had with Lucasfilm covered keeping SW characters out of crossovers with the Marvel universe. Things like the Superman/Spidey team up were already a big deal at time. And Lucas was a comic book fan.

One of the first things I look up whenever I plan a visit to the US is comic shops. I can obviously get any of the old SW comics digitally, and TPB are available in pretty much any big city in Scandinavia, but original issues are rare to come by, if at all.

This is yesterday’s haul of classic SW.
(My “ultimate” goal is to get a copy of every issue made by Goodwin/Infantino. I’m about halfway there now.)

Unless played for laughs, such a crossover would be profoundly stupid.

Weirder crossovers have happened (and been treated seriously);

good finds there in the comic shops here in the United States ZkinandBonez ! And you found an issue with an interesting story (46)written by "Wally Lombego " …http://www.jmdematteis.com/2010/09/dreams-of-wally-lombego.html

Interesting. I had no idea Lombego was an “Alan Smithee” of sorts.

It’s a really odd story, but I kind of like the old Marvel stories that doesn’t fit the overall SW mould.

and here on the writers page is the original ending to that story…http://www.jmdematteis.com/2010/10/star-warsagain.html

I might have to track down that SWW issue just for this alternate ending. (Maybe next time I’m in the UK.)

yeah, I dig them . The Force.net used to have a gallery of the entire run of the old Marvel series covers , U.S. ,SWW and Titan as well as all other international covers but I have not been able to find it in the archive since they changed the format of the site. They even had a couple of U.K. hardback annuals
