I watched it last night; and it’s beautiful. Well done, NeverarGreat!

+1, I have no words to say how much your work is astonishing, beautiful, valuable… a true gift for all SW fans!

Thank you!

I’m working on getting a full comparison gallery uploaded, but there’s 3 more reels to go. Each frame selected shows more than basic color correction, and usually this mean that I’ve used another source for color or detail. When a similar fix is applied to multiple shots in a scene, only a representative sample of the fixed shots are included. Here’s the gallery so far:

‘Un très grand Merci’ for this hard work and amazing result, Bravo NeverarGreat !

Can’t wait for v2 😛

Just want to chime in and say that I thumbed through the release and watched sections of it and the colors are absolutely gorgeous. I can’t wait for Harmy’s 3.0 so I can make a hybrid version (I still can’t stomach some of the SE changes enough for this to be a go-to).

Is there any chance for a V2 that you could put the 97 DTS track as the default? I know it’s a simple remux but if this release is supposed to represent the “best of the special edition” I think it should default to the track that is widely considered better in both content and quality.

Change the header in MKVToolNix so that the 97 track is default. Takes less than 5 seconds 😃

Here’s something for version 2 that I think makes a big difference, while still being subtle:
Blu-ray: No Color
Tech V2: Color

The blue appears in the starfield right at the end of the crawl, so I just restored it throughout.

It looks much better now, that small change really brings it to life.

I stand corrected. Not all home video releases show the Leia/R2-D2 corridor scene with neutral colors. I looked at the first 1982 laserdisc release and guess what:

Sorry I’ve not read this thread before, and am late to the party, but those panels are in fact quite green. I saw one of them out at the ranch in tjhe mid 90s when I was there.
Also, on the SE prints, they are pretty much as green as on the IB Tech prints.
The Tantive corridor panels also had a very slight mint-green to them, at least the ones I saw in person did. I also saw the head of the droid in the Tantooine shot, it was more yellow than orange, but not quite as crazy yellow as the bootleg.

The home releases are all over the place, telecine operators tend to balance towards neutral and colour correct on the fly. The operator would have made many decisions that had little to do with how the prints looked in cinemas.

As for R2 looking cyan in some shots, and arguing he should be white, well of course he is painted white, which means he will pick up any reflected light and take on some of that hue. In a predominantly greenish-blue environment, he could look a little cyan.
I’ll post some shots from the SE prints in the SE thread for comparison, but here is one from the SE print.

For my theatrical regrade of the bluray (which uses NeverarGreat’s as the source) I’ve kept the green corridor for the Leia/R2-D2 sequence. Here’s how it looks in the second pass version:

I wish there was a like button for posts. The green corridor looks great!

Author

That’s a quite mild green compared to some of the very over the top versions we’ve sometimes seen.

I agree that it looks great when balanced and in moderation. It doesn’t need to be colorless and certainly not blueish.

are there any screengrabs of lightsaber shots from v2?

Would you be offended if I used a cantaloupe after I get the blu rays?

NO CANTALOUPE!!

Seriously though, only new members to the site need to prove they’ve got the blu-ray. Though since you have admitted that you don’t yet…

I only have not gotten it yet is because of college

For the record, my confusion was 98% cantaloupe related.

I got my internet shut off for a while for using BitTorrent when I was in the dorms in college. That was 10 years ago, so god knows how strict they’ve gotten with shit since then.

my college had lots of rules about that stuff, telling you where you had to put it, where you couldn’t put it. “sir, you can’t do that in the common area”, etc.
