Imagine if Episode II mirrored Episode V, but in a better way? Instead of having forced callbacks (3P0’s head getting dragged around/Boba Fett), we get thematic parallels.
Secretly, the Jedi council have been planning to overthrow the Chancellor. They’ve figured out that he’s the Sith Lord. They know that Anakin and him are close, so they try to distance them. Anakin keeps feeling the call to action, he senses Palpatine, his friend, in danger. Obi-Wan tells him not to go, the feeling will pass in time. Anakin leaves, and sees this:

This also helps things tie into the Original Trilogy. When Luke’s about to leave Dagobah to save his friends, Ben says: “Luke, I don’t want to lose you to the emperor the way I lost Vader.” Implying that the circumstances were very similar.
This shows that Luke has a much stronger will than his father, and that his father is redeemable. Luke’s made the same mistake, only he didn’t join the baddie. This also gives much stronger motivation to Vader’s turn. He feels betrayed by the Jedi, and turns to the only person who’s left. This won’t be the first time Kenobi lies for his benefit.
