FYI, Arrested Development season 5 is coming out on May 29!

I saw that thanks to going to Netflix and watching Ep1 of S4 last night. Loved it!

I watched S4 when it came out so it’s been awhile and I can’t compare how the new S4 feels versus the original.

Some of it is just about random mundane stuff yes. And it’s great. But a good deal of it is just the characters being horrible people. Not that I’m complaining it’s a great show.

That’s one of the main reasons why it was good. Most popular sitcoms then, like the Cosby Show, were full of more-or-less perfect people that seemed to exist solely to moralize to us lesser folk.

Seinfeld, Frasier, Dinosaurs, Everbody Loves Raymond, Home Improvement. Probably in that order, greatest to least of the best, and I can’t think of anything else right now.

Only one of those is great…or even good.

Mind elaborating?

Frasier and Dinosaurs are legitimately fantastic shows, and Raymond is pretty close to them.

THE SUN RACES THROUGH A BLUE SKY FILLED WITH WHITE CLOUDS.

Frink does this a lot. He points to extremely popular things that are widely enjoyed and then acts like they’re totally hated and questions why anyone likes them. It’s a similar tactic used by Trump supporters. I don’t really mind, but it makes me wonder why people get so turned off when I admit that I don’t usually respect or believe other people’s opinions because pretty everybody feels that way, except I just admit it. I would think that honesty would be more respectable but I guess not. I can’t comprehend how normal people interpret things.

Lol, sure. I think you typed some words after that but it didn’t seem worth reading on to find out.

Anyway, Frasier is average at best, the rest are poor.

Exactly, you disregard almost all other opinions. I don’t mind, I do the same thing, I just admit that I do it and don’t care. I don’t understand why people have given me shit for that in the past.

These are my opinions. I’m not allowed to have them?

And I was asked for clarification and I provided it.

I don’t care what your opinions are. Like I said, I don’t value other people’s opinions almost 99% of the time. I just don’t get why I sometimes get mocked for that position opinion when other people, like you, behave the same way. I’m not criticizing you, I’m just pointing out that I admit to thinking the way most people think.

I could definitely tell how it felt different and how certain things pay off way sooner, or at least differently, but it’s been too long since I’ve watched the original version to be able to do a breakdown of exactly how different it all is.

But I remember feeling like I was watching a different show both times I watched season 4, and I felt like I was watching Arrested Development when I was watching the remix.

I have no doubt the remix would feel more like AD put side-by-side with the original, and I’d probably prefer it.

With that said I still think the original was great in its own way.

Ugh, searching “Arrested Development” led me to stories about

  1. The cast being upset at not getting additional money for the remix
  2. Jeffrey Tambor being in Season 5 and being involved in all the promotional efforts

Stupid and unfortunate, but doesn’t surprise me for Netflix.

  1. Jeffrey Tambor being in Season 5 and being involved in all the promotional efforts

The whole season was shot before the allegations. So I kinda get not messing with that after the fact. Promotional stuff is dumb though.

Author

It was actually midway through shooting when the allegations broke. Not that I think they should (or realistically could) have canned him and rewritten the season mid-production, but yeah, he probably shouldn’t be part of the promotional stuff at this point.

Author

Have they turned out to be more than just allegations?

It seems like there’s no doubt that Tambor has a temper and can treat people like shit on set, but the sexual harrassment allegations either could be true, or could be part of an effort to get him (a cis male) off of a show where he played a trans woman - both accusers are trans, members of the trans community were beginning to call his casting “transface,” and one of the producers(?) apparently implied as much to him on a phone call as it was all going down.

I don’t know what to believe, but so far none of the accusations have gone as far as sexual assault or anything like that. They’re bad, yes, and if they’re true he needs to answer for them, but no one from any other project has come forward with any similar allegations either.

“Transface” is not real and is the dumbest complaint I’ve ever heard in my entire life. I don’t know about the allegations though, that’s just how I feel about that shite.

I mean, I get it. If there are trans actors looking for work, you’ve got a trans character, and you cast a cis actor…that’s not representation. It’s like casting a tan Caucasian dude to play a Mexican character when there are plenty of Mexican actors out there.

I disagree. I think you could say that about any identity. Race is different from ethnicity and gender/sex identity. Acting is all about becoming a different character. Making an actor appear to be a different race because you don’t want to hire people of color for a non-white character is offensive and exclusionary, but an actor for any other role is different. An actor pretending to be gay or trans is no different than a gay actor pretending to be a straight character. It’s a lot different. Maybe I’m just taking it personally because Boy’s Don’t Cry is among my favorite movies.

I feel like trans is an altogether different kettle of fish than sexual orientation, though.

Sexuality is someones preference i.e a man being sexually attracted to men.

A gender is what you are, whether you were born as it or not.

JEDIT: I think I misread the conversation, sorry!

It’s not hard to figure out. There are a lot of trans actors out there, but very limited roles for trans characters. When a cis gendered person takes a trans role, that only exacerbates the limited number of opportunities.

Add on to that the important perspective that someone who actually is that kind of person brings to such a role.

Like most things, in an ideal world where trans actors are given ample opportunities, it’s a non-issue. Same with actors of different orientations. But we don’t live in that world.
