Hey, Groucho Marx is timeless.

Tell that to almost all the kids.

Most haven’t even heard of him.

Why do you have to do that? 😦

Sorry you don’t like a big bucket of truth thrown in your face, but I gotta be me.

I guess that’s why I’m on a forum with a bunch of 40 or 50 somethings.

I would venture most are human.

That was Frinkbait if I’ve ever seen it.

That’s disgusting.

A thread about cell phones, electronics, or smart devices.

My iPhone was overheating and battery dying constantly. Bought a hopefully non-exploding battery on the internet last week. So far, so good. Still not happy with its longevity but I guess that’s smartphones. I resisted until a couple years ago. At least I’m not afraid to go on OT with it 🤓 And that’s all I have to say on the matter.

Ugh. I hate Apple products.

Me too. I’m using a hand-me-down which is better than the relatively cheap phones I’ve had in the past. The interface of Apple computers drives me crazy.

The blue elephant in the room.

You’re not wrong, but that’s mainly because of complete cultural ignorance, and most people are ignorant so it’s no surprise they’ve never heard of him.

well, apple products work really well with other apple products

Which is my point. Apple products work well with Apple products, but only Apple products. Both getting an iPhone to work with other non-Apple devices or software, and getting non-Apple devices to work with Apple software are a pain in the rear end.

My father in law has a SanDisk Sansa Fuze mp3 player, and getting it to automatically sync music with iTunes was a chore. Conversely, manipulating files on my dad’s iPad without using iTunes is also a chore.

If you use Apple anything, you’re strongly encouraged to use Apple everything else because of the way the ecosystem is designed to lock you in.

What would you guys recommend as a replacement for a slowly dying Samsung Galaxy S2? Yes, I have 7 years old phone and only now I start to think about an upgrade.

Requirements

  • long battery life - I don’t play games or watch movies on my phone and switch on wi-fi only when I want, and I have to charge my 7 years old phone twice a week, so I don’t want a phone which I’ll have to charge every night
  • wi-fi
  • good camera(s)
  • good speed
  • lots of disc space (I can’t even install updates on my S2 anymore because of lack of space)
  • 3.5mm jack (so no new iPhones)
  • preferably Android
  • good build, it should survive a fall from normal height

I don’t care about facial recognition or finger sensor or any other fancy crap. Any tips?

S2…lol. I had an S2. And an S4. And I currently have an S6 and have been thinking it needs to be replaced.

I like my S7 just fine. It has an SD card slot, which they initially ditched for the S6.

Don’t know anything about the S8 or newer, though. And I still liked my Moto X better than the Samsungs - dunno what Motorola’s got out at the moment, but that might be worth looking into.

I don’t like that the new ones (starting with S8 I think) all have curved glass. I love my Otterbox with the built in screen protector and they haven’t figured out a way to make those for curved glass phones.

hmm tech talk…I’ll always use a phone that’s dumber than I am and preferably a flipper. No overpriced macs or modern versions of windows. I use a cannon vixia and an epson projector. That’s about the extent of the modern stuff worth mention.
