I’m still wondering how the Jedi council never found out about that Tusken slaughter. Nobody even asked what Anakin was doing on Tattooine?

The Prequel Jedi are too stupid to ask questions or sense any danger other than vague “I sense a plot to destroy the jedi and evil surrounds Palpatine but let’s not do anything about it” comments.

To be fair, that kind of thinking extended to Luke in TLJ where he doesn’t do anything until it’s too late and then bungles it.

Which, at least in TLJ, is the point.

Of course that might have been the point in the PT too, but it certainly wasn’t communicated clearly if so.

so you don’t think the pt jedi were written to be stupid and blind? i always thought that was the point.

It was the point. The Jedi are clearly a bunch of arrogant fools blinded by their own power, and that’s a huge part of the reason for their downfall. They’re hypocrites.

As for worst scene: TLJ milking, or TLJ Mary Poppins reenactment, either either.

Again, I don’t recall Mary Poppins being blown out into space. Was that a deleted scene Disney cut after previews back in '64? 😛

My headcanon has long been that the slaughter was just a dream sequence that George accidentally edited as if it really happened. This makes sense of Padme treating it exactly as she would a bad dream.

Nah it’s George thinking… hmm what would a bad person do? And then child killing becomes his only character trait besides whining all the time.

Your characterization of his thought process is…kind of outrageous. It’s unfair. How can you be the creator of Star Wars and not be a genius?

You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.

I understand that ‘Jedi being hypocrites lead to their downfall’. That’s fine. It’s just that I don’t care about the Jedi in the first place- so I can’t care about their downfall.

What I look for in a movie is likable characters. I like Luke Skywalker, I like Han Solo, and I like Leia Organa.

You know what trio I don’t give two shits about? Anakin, Padme, and prequel Obi-Wan!

Every scene in that trilogy is the worst because I don’t like the characters and I don’t care if they succeed. I don’t even know what Obi-Wan wants! He doesn’t have an arc in the prequels! In TPM he tells Qui-Gon to be more boring so that he could be on the council. In AOTC he fights with Anakin the whole movie, talking about how arrogant he is. And in ROTS Obi-Wan barely considers bringing Anakin back to the good side. He feels bad about it, sure, but he has no reservations telling Yoda to kill him instead!

“And he was a good friend” my ass.

Anakin, our protagonist, isn’t relatable in any way! He’s an annoying little boy in TPM, he’s a weirdo sex-pervert in AOTC, and he’s a bipolar maniac in ROTS! He doesn’t have a fall from grace in my mind because we never see him in a likable state!

Padme’s just boring. I don’t care about negotiating support in the senate. I don’t care about “fixing up the baby’s room on Naboo”. Nothing that character does ever matters, especially in ROTS. She just sits and talks and dies. The only reason George had her in the movies is because Luke and Leia had to have a mommy.

The droid conveyor belt scene could have been fine if I cared about the characters (and if it wasn’t just a last-minute thought.)

Anakin’s fall to the dark side, I’ts way to rushed, the writing is stupid, Anakin is a silent violent brute which is nothing like Vader, And The Emperor’s makeup looks like total shit!

The Mary Poppins nomenclature is so dumb. How does a lady pulling herself through outer space in zero gravity even remotely reassemble a lady using an umbrella to fly on earth?

I don’t normally post and I don’t have a problem with the Leia in space scene as a story beat, but I can understand the idea of comparing it to Mary Poppins visually as it’s all in the staging of the scene: one arm outstretched, dress/cloak, one foot kind of up - google Mary Poppins and you’ll get a fair few shots that resemble it, although I believe they are mostly advertisements from the stage play not necessarily the movie version, but they still show that ‘image’ as being associated with Mary Poppins in the public consciousness.

Obviously people use it as a ‘hah hah this is bad’ point of comparison, but why does looking like Mary Poppins have to be a bad thing? Maybe it was a deliberate choice to evoke that imagery - it wasn’t that long ago that the image of Mary Poppins defeating Voldermort was used at the London Olympics, and like Leia, she is a powerful, magical woman.

That said, I kind of giggled at it in the cinema as well the first time.

Are you talking about Anakin cutting off Mace Windu’s hand and then kneeling before the Emperor? I can’t stand that scene either.

Vader is such a nice guy in the OT.

Vader is a wise ass and pissed off type of guy, and a strong believer of the force.

Anakin is a strong Force believer too. But Anakin is not Vader until the very end of the PT, so I’m not bothered by that. Besides, 20 years gap between PT and OT can explain many things. People change. Aren’t people accepting that Luke is a very different guy in the ST than the nice guy he was during the OT ?

Not sure MP has that level of awareness on both sides of the pond? Disney is probably going to have to remind some people the upcoming new movie is actually a sequel.
I think whoever first coined Leia Poppins was only thinking in terms of Disney owning Star Wars now.
Having said that, if Miss Poppins gets blown out into space in the upcoming sequel, the circle will be complete! 😛

Vader is such a nice guy in the OT.

R1 Vader and Anakin are not like OT Vader. OT Vader is about Batman Gambits and outsmarting the good peopl. R1 Vader is “let’s kill as many Rebels as I can in this unnecesary second ending”. Anakin is not even Vader-like smart, he is clueless the whole time, trusts the guy who first told him he could save Padme and later said he doesn’t know how to save her, is too susceptible compared with Vader, is too prone to burst of anger, and he merely felt to the Dark Side because he wanted to save his lover, not because he was searching for power and control over the rest.

OT Vader was not a “silent violent brute” even if he wasn’t a nice guy and he was silent most of the time.

Had Anakin been a different person, you may have liked him as a villain, but the prequels neve gave a convincing explanation as to what made Anakin the same Vader we saw in the OT. Two decades between the trilogies, my ass. That’s how you explain intertrilogy Luke forgetting his own actions in RotJ?
