Star Wars IX: Fleet of the Free?
With the Resistance annihilated I wonder how JJ can continue the story? It wouldn’t be Star Wars if the movie didn’t have to result in a final space battle.
But with the resistance out of the picture, who will fight the First Order?
The main theme of this movie could be that the remaining rebels are visiting different planets to assemble a last emergency fleet composed of “national” ships: Chewbacca could go to Kashyyyk to convince his people to go to arms. If they didn’t join now, they would be taken down one by one later. One rebel team could go back to Jabba’s palace on Tattoine or even to Nal Hutta to convince Rotta, son of Jabba, to bring in all of the other Hutts and their ships. One could go to Dac/Mon Calamari, maybe more Bothans feel the need to die and so on…
Some teams succeed and they assemble one last fleet of resistance: The remaining hope for freedom in the galaxy. Meanwhile Rey reads the old Jedi scrolls to prepare for her final confrontation with the new emperor…

Uh, no. The Rebellion is rebuilt from the ashes of the Resistance and Rey develops as a Jedi in the crawl. We start several years later

Before ROGUE ONE dashed my hopes with it’s new-fangled opening, I’d been keeping my fingers crossed that this franchise would retain some sort of ‘scroll’ title accompanied by Williams’ majestic theme score at the start of each entry.
His iconic opening music (along with seeing the words STAR WARS emblazoned across the screen) was always a big part of the anticipation for me, before the first shot even appeared.
As with ROGUE ONE, I’ll really miss hearing and seeing that in future instalments.

If VIII had Luke’s first action be throw away his lightsaber, why not make Rey and Kylo’s first action in IX be kissing passionately while everyone around them watch in confusion?
EDIT: PLOT TWIST: Reylo is necessary so that Rey is a Skywalker since she will be the wife of a Solo and mother to a Solo.
First off, like was saaid earlier, VIII made a big deal out of the fact that her heritage doesn’t matter, and this would contradict that. Second off, why not have her simply take on the name without that? Maybe Luke decides she’s like a daughter to him and tells her she is now Rey Skywalker. It would feel far more appropriate.

I feel like a lot of people’s problems with both TFA and TLJ (not all, mind you, both films are far from flawless) - and even the PT to a degree - stemmed from their expectations for how they should be instead of being open to things going down a unique path.
So know that I’m fully aware that I’m setting myself up for major disappointment two years from now when I say this:
Not at least addressing the Knights of Ren in Episode IX would be a massive mistake.
Hoping and expecting are two different things. I hope the Knights of Ren all wield lightsabers and go down in a blaze of glory. I expect them to be, you know, just sorta there in one or two scenes, not really doing much, let alone having their background explained. And if they do get action scenes, they’ll have non-lightsaber weapons.

I just need episode 9 to really make it clear the effect that Luke had on the galaxy. If they are able to communicate the necessity of his sacrifice toward the eventual peace of the galaxy then that would help uplift his actions even more in TLJ.

I’m just happy that Episode 8 gave us one final performance by The Last Laser Master.

- Maz Kanata returns to give more wisdom to Rey. A truth/parents revealed?

- Rey builds a new lightsaber with Luke guiding her.
- Kylo Ren sacrifices himself and destroys the First Order, and choking General Hux.
- Rey travels to the planet she’s actually from.
- What do you think?
1, 5, 6, and 7 are most likely going to happen. The rest, I have no idea.

- Force ghost Luke no question. They won’t have none of the original three in the movie
- Rey builds a new lightsaber with Luke guiding her. I feel like this is something Rey would figure out herself, given her handiness and natural force ability
- Kylo Ren sacrifices himself and destroys the First Order, and choking General Hux. I’d rather see Sen killed by Rey. Enough redemption. Keep it dark

Porgs are revealed to merely be the protrusion into our dimension of hyper-intelligent pan-dimensional beings who are actually bent on controlling the galaxy. The First Order and the Resistance reluctantly join forces to defeat them.
Rey and Kylo battle a giant Porg in the finale. Phasma returns only to be eaten by the giant Porg, who spits out her armor. Just when it seems they will lose to the giant Porg, Broom Boy™ saves the day.
Lando finally shows up at the very end, with a plausible explanation as to where the heck he’s been the past two movies.
Luke wakes up in a cold sweat safe and sound at his Jedi Knight school. The entire sequel trilogy revealed to be a bad dream. Millions of Star Wars fans take up hard drinking.

Let me enhance this: the First Order got some kind of doomsday device and Kylo Ren destroys it by ramming his light saber in a reverse-king-arthur-like-sword-stone-move into the main reactor control unit.
Rogue One is redundant. Just play the first mission of DARK FORCES.
