I tried it and no one else was there. Dating makes me uncomfortable.

The thing about online dating is it’s mostly losers, sprinkled in with a few random people who are perfectly fine but are either down on their luck or in an area that’s hard to meet people or are just having trouble making the time to meet people. But then those people will try it only to find that most everybody else on there… Well sucks. Then when they find a profile of a Decent person on there it’s usually abandoned because they gave up also. So then you give up. Some people get lucky and it works, but I honestly have had better luck in the past (when i didn’t already know who I wanted) messaging girls I was “friends with” on Facebook based on their profiles and if they seemed like a good person and maybe we had a few shared interests. It’s a lot less pressure that way. That way you have references, they can look at your page and see how you interact with family and friends etc

It also sucks for different reasons for guys versus girls - girls get bombarded with asshole dudes sending unsolicited dick pics, demanding nudes, and/or being general creeps; while guys don’t ever get messages and, when we try to initiate conversation, are usually either ignored altogether, or have the entire burden of carrying a conversation. The last girl that actually responded to me, I managed to have a conversation with her for about a day before I realized that I was asking all the questions and her responses were all very short answers and a “How about you?” back. So I answered her last “And you?” and then waited for her to ask me something or otherwise carry a bit of the conversation, and…nothing.

Ugh.

It’s all very depressing. I can’t even get a response from my real life friends, let alone online strangers.

Again, I’m old and remember a time when big ass movies took three years minimum to reach “free” tv. It’s been two years three months since TFA came out.

I don’t think movies resonate as much as they did anyway. People forget about most new releases the week after they come out. I can’t recall the last new release that really affected the culture as a whole, like a famous quote or anything.

You’ve got to remember history only looks back on the standouts. There’s plenty of forgettable crap from the past too. There’s plenty of iconic modern movies. Lord of the Rings, the Harry Potter Series, others I’m too lazy to keep naming

I’ve watched a ton of old crap. I guess Harry Potter is the closest, but that series ended seven years ago, and the one that’s quoted came out nearly 20 years ago.

Frink and possessed and a few others being over competitive and overly critical about my version of the out of context thread and acting like frink’s is essentially the special edition version which makes it “better”. I just wish that the two threads could just be sibling threads instead of rivals or being better or worse than another.
