For some reason, eating pizza from a gas station convenience store feels like eating pizza out of the school lunch line.

Papa Murphy’s is a scam. If I want to make my own pizza, I’ll get one at the grocery store.

Hey look, we already had this conversation in 2016!

Except Papa Murphy’s is not frozen. The ingredients are fresh, and they pile a ton of them on. I also find the flavor to be superior.

Is the quality of a pizza related to the number of ingredients on it?

No. I was just amazed when I went there at one point to order a pepperoni pizza, and they covered almost the whole pizza in pepperoni. I was rather impressed. That’s just in addition to the cheese and the sauce being good. The only downside is the crust isn’t scored so you have to watch out for bubbles when you cook it. That’s kind of annoying.

You don’t have to worry about this at take-after-baked pizza places.

I prefer Papa Murphy’s because it tastes better, enough to be worth the inconvenience of cooking it.

How horrific. Is that flan?

With a pitch like that I don’t know Papa Murphy’s would hire you as a spokesperson. Better if you say “…and it’s so easy to cook!”

I’m trying to understand this Papa Murphy’s pizza, at first I thought it was a pizza chain restaurant, but now it sounds more like a Digiorno frozen pizza at the supermarket kinda deal?

Frink, your frozen comparison has no legs. Fresh take n bake is a lot better than even the best tasting frozen stuff (probably Red Baron, though I’m sure you’ll inevitably disagree about that too).

It’s a take out pizza place. You go there and order a pizza, they build it out of fresh (not frozen) ingredients and then you take it home to bake in your home oven. It’s honestly not inconvenient at all.

Red Baron is surprisingly good for the price. Ellio’s if I’m feeling nostalgic.

Except you’re combining the inconveniences of having to go pick up the pizza from the pizza place with having to cook a frozen pizza yourself? Fucking weird. Do they also sell uncooked spaghetti and meatballs?

I don’t see how anyone could compare a frozen pizza to Papa Murphy’s. The best frozen pizza I’ve had is California Pizza Kitchen, but it’s still a frozen pizza. Papa Murphy’s is fresh; you watch them prepare the dough and assemble it right in front of you with fresh vegetables. If you cook it within the hour it’s quite good, especially with the garlic sauce.

Admittedly, a very good restaurant pizza should be better, especially if they have a proper brick oven. But most pizza places mentioned in this thread don’t have that.

It also might depend on the type of crust. For take-and-bake, I generally stick with thick crust because you want it more doughy/bread-like, which a regular oven can produce nicely. Thin crust is more touchy with respect to the type of oven.

Dom didn’t nail it though. You have to go to the supermarket to buy a frozen pizza and then you have to take it home and cook it. The same applies at Murphy’s. The biggest difference is that you have to wait 60 seconds for them to build your pizza in front of you. It’s like they’re almost the same, but one actually tastes good.

Yeah, but just, why. Just get one of them fancy pre baked pizzas from a pizza place. I’m sure papa smurfys is better than a frozen pizza but I doubt its better than that plus you don’t have to do the work.

No one goes to the supermarket when they want pizza, they go to an actual pizza place. Frozen pizza is a convenience because presumably you’ve already bought it when you were doing your grocery shopping, in which case if you want pizza you don’t have to leave your house at all.

The other advantage of frozen pizza is that it is much cheaper. I’m guessing Papa Murphy’s doesn’t sell at frozen pizza prices but I’m willing to be wrong.

It’s not frozen. And the ingredients are better. And there are more of them.

And them preparing the pizza takes less time, so you’re in and out of the store in no time even if you don’t call ahead.

Absolutely I don’t understand certain posters here. Frozen pizza you buy ahead to keep on hand there for Frozen is a requirement. If you decide you want pizza for dinner, then we are comparing Murphy’s to a regular pizza joint. And frankly I don’t Se the allure of Murphy’s unless it’s the only thing in your area.

Why doesn’t Papa Murphy’s also offered to bake the pizza for you? That would be even more convenient, fresh toppings, but bakrs to perfection.

We don’t have freezers. We don’t pour cheese pellets from a bag. Instead, we make dough from scratch, shred cheese from blocks, and chop veggies by hand. It’s how you’d want to make a pizza if you had all day to do it.
