I’d go with Ghostbusters or Mask of the Phantasm.
I’d go with Ghostbusters or Mask of the Phantasm.
I think I’ll go with the latter. Thanks. Although, I’m not sure which version to show them: the (correct) 1.33:1 or the 1.85:1 version that’s included so I don’t have to answer the “why are there black bars on the sides of the screen?” question to people who don’t understand aspect ratios and framing and stuff.

But the 1.85:1 version is the correct version! It was framed for theatrical release and I noticed a few more animation errors watching it the other way.
Days of Wine and Roses (1962) - Perhaps Hollywood’s best depiction of alcoholism, with great performances from Jack Lemmon and Lee Remick. It goes a bit far out there that it sometimes loses its effectiveness for me, particularly in the second act, but it’s very strong material. Especially that ending!
In what way? Should I watch it or should I absolutely not watch it?
I’m not sure. Do you like other films of the period like The Apartment? Lemmon was an alcoholic, playing an alcoholic, and the third act is pretty hard to swallow when you think back on the first. I leave it up to you to decide.
I’d go with Ghostbusters or Mask of the Phantasm.

MOTP was originally intended for a home video release. The decision to go theatrical was made late in production, so both aspect ratios are in play.
Where were you in '77?
Yeah, some shots are 1.33:1 framed, some are 1.85:1 framed. It’s a compromise either way.
I’d go with Ghostbusters or Mask of the Phantasm.

I noticed more animation errors in the 1.85 last night that I had previously watching the 1.33 version, at least in the CG title sequence (a couple buildings seemed to disappear and reappear at times). I also think a lot of the framing is just better in the 1.33:1, and it helps give it an old-school noir vibe that isn’t as effective in the wider format. Though, it still isn’t bad in 1.85, and having looked into it some more, I can see how one could prefer it.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi
I still think it’s the coolest thing since Kurosawa. Go suck a laser sword, fanboys. 😛

I didn’t know it was out already.
It’s not. A local university gets some movies early and shows them for free.

A Wrinkle In Time: interesting movie. I think they overdid the costumes a little bit but I enjoyed most of the environments. So I guess I enjoyed the aesthetics. I also liked the protagonist, but the other characters just make some very weird decisions and the movie goes on to become incohesive due to characters’ actions.
To put it in an interesting way: it’s sort of a cheesy acid trip that could’ve been better.
Black Panther: loved it. Wish it would’ve gone more political in several moments, but I really liked it. It lost me a little bit during the part where SPOILERS
T’Challa was “dead”,
but overall it was pretty great. The first act was definitely my favorite though. Getting to know T’Challa more and his family and stuff - that was very cool. So yeah, I liked it a lot. It had the Iron Man feeling to me. Not sure how else to describe it, but I can tell you it’s a good thing.

This is probably pretty controversial, but I agree. It’d take a Marvel superhero movie up a notch and give it a little more soul.
The Person in Question
I agree too, but I also think the villain was right, so what do I know?
.
I thought it hit a good balance where the politics enriched the story, characters, and conflicts without overshadowing them.
I agree too, but I also think the villain was right, so what do I know?
A lot. He was right, he just went about it the wrong way. We’re supposed to see the validity of his perspective.
Yeah, but I think they could’ve focused more on politics and add more layers to the characters’ beliefs.
I haven’t even seen it so I probably shouldn’t even be talking.

Lol, that isn’t a requirement around here.

THE WAYS OF HIS HEART ARE MUCH LIKE THE SUN. SONIC RUNS AND RESTS; THE SUN RISES AND SETS.
DON’T GIVE UP ON THE SUN. DON’T MAKE THE SUN LAUGH AT YOU.

I’ve wanted to see a lot of those for a long time, Dek. Amadeus is an all-time favorite, and I’m glad you managed to see the theatrical version.
Yesterday I watched:
Really messy movie. It tries to be comedic and clever but often fails and often doesn’t make much sense. Really disappointing considering the talent involved.
Of all the classic Hollywood directors they could have chosen to direct this film, Vincente Minnelli was the one that makes the absolute most sense. No matter what the content, all of his movies have fantastic, dreamlike visuals, so to direct a movie about a painter who often evokes the fantastic and the dreamlike, well, it’s a perfect fit.
