The X-Files 11x01 “My Struggle III”

Holy fucking shit that was so much worse than I expected, and I was expecting hot garbage. Fuck you Chris Carter. You outdid yourself. Never write anything ever again.

I knew the episode outpaced the worst of Season 7 when that insulting “moon landing hoax” bullshit reared it’s malignant head.

Chris Carter needs to be introduced to Buzz Aldrin right quick.

And then he had to go and throw in that “platonic relationship” crap in last week’s episode, too. Ugh.

It’s my favorite of the four, and was designed to be the series finale the same way the (production) season 4, 6, and 7 finales were.

Well, episode 25 out of 26 in season 6, anyway - if it hadn’t been renewed, the last two episodes would’ve swapped places.

Seeing the X-Files go on like this makes me sad. I love the early seasons.

Neat! I’m pretty excited to watch it! If it’s on Hulu I’ll probably watch tonight.

It is, but it’s the version that’s cut down into 4 episodes. It’ll be season 6, episodes 13-16 on Hulu.

Whereas J. Michael Straczynski took time and care crafting Babylon 5, making sure he had the series’ story planned out years in advance, making significant changes only when real-world issues got in the way, Chris Carter has no vision, no goal, makes shit up as he goes along, and changes his mind on a whim.

Chris Carter is the Anti-Straczynski.

I watched the pilot episode of Altered Carbon. My dad was turned off because “it’s just too weird.” I didn’t like it either, but after some thought, I decided it was because there was no vested interest in the characters.

The main character is a super-soldier assassin anti-hero, in a future dystopia filled with who-cares-who-these-people-are, and he’s been hired by some rich dude who was (almost) assassinated but there’s no emotional investment in why it matters. The main character is really just looking into it because he has nothing better to do.

I read an article that lambasted critics for being turned off by the series and not bothering after the first few episodes. The writer of the article said they should have given the show a fair shake by hanging on for 10 or more episodes at least. But I don’t agree with that sentiment at all. First impressions are important, and time is a precious commodity. If you can’t capture my interest in the first few episodes, then you’re wasting my time that I could be using on something else that doesn’t take 7 hours (45 minutes x 10 episodes) of viewing time to maybe start piquing my interest.

So Chris Carter wouldn’t write a Superman walking around aimlessly and almost letting a woman commit suicide?

Ok… so I think I just finished the Fox seasons. DVD, seasons 1-4, which apparently means that I’m watching them in “production order”. That means I should look for a season 5 that consists of the DVD movies (or the DVD movies themselves), and then the CC ones. Is that right?

Collipso, I’m late to this party, but I’d just like to mention that replacing General Grievous’ voice with Roberto’s voice (the knife-wielding maniac robot from Futurama) is one of my favorite things in my edits. Never fails to make me laugh.

And yeah I just complemented myself.

I watched the pilot and was slightly intrigued, but not enough to keep watching it. Also i can only take so many non-family friendly shows. How late do they think i can stay up every night?

Makes me want The Expanse to return though. That is a show my Wife enjoys watching with me, so it is easier to find the time.

And this just gave me a massive kick in the ass to actually, finally check out your edits. That’s just genius.

To clarify, that edit is not done yet (although Bender does make a brief appearance at the beginning of TRM). I will see if I can dig up a few of the Roberto clips though.
