The Cloverfield Paradox

I liked a lot of things about it, the set design, some of the music, the cast; but in the end, it’s a movie about a whole lot of things just happening because parallel universe and there’s not much to hold it all together.

I guess I forgot to mention my number score or whatever. 2.5/5, or 5/10, or whatever. A fairly competent movie, but far from a good one.

Even Chewie and Leia miunderstood the situation at first.

Only Threepio knew it all along, had to be a mistake.

I thought it was good for what it was. I don’t expect greatness from this franchise, just diverting sci-fi thrillers (well sure a lot of 10 Cloverfield was great but still).

Did they really get enough money from Netflix to make it worth not doing a theatrical release?

And I watched the first 30 minutes this morning. Good stuff so far.

Most Barneys didn’t load for me this time… maybe it’s because I’m on the iPad, but they usually load.

I’m gonna pitch a project to you.
It was written by Michael Crichton. Are you interested? Yes, damn right you’re interested.
The screen play was written by John Patrick Shanley, who won an academy award for Moonstruck. Are you interested? Hell yes you’re interested! But wait!-
We also got Anne Coates who was the editor on Lawrence of Arabia, it’s being produced by Speilberg’s producers and it’s being photographed by Allen Daviau who shot Close Encounters and E.T., are ya interested?

Has there ever been any official word on whether they made it tongue-in-cheek or if they were going for a mostly serious adventure?

I just realized I failed to include Mother! in the list of last movies I’d seen. I guess I should say something about it.

I sympathize with the allegory, but the allegory was eclipsed by the imagery. If I never see Jennifer Lawrence brutally beaten to within an inch of her life — or an innocent baby killed, butchered, and eaten — in a movie ever again, it’ll be too soon.

4 sober Barnies out of 9 (5/10)

Rosemary’s Baby
I fell asleep watching this, but I know this was supposed to be good. It didn’t really do much for me, but it was truly demented.

If it makes you feel any better, I outright dislike this movie.

Even that was only mostly great. They’re basically designed as b-movie throwbacks (for example, the next one has Nazis in it). That’s how I view them anyway.
