I enjoyed Pitch Perfect. It’s cliched to the point where the plot is a step away from being an ABC Family original movie, but I found the toe-tapping musical numbers and the cast quite charming. It’s not exactly great art, but I liked it a lot more than I thought I would. The second definitely suffered from the law of diminishing returns, but still had elements of fun. I hear the third is way, way, way too much of a mediocre thing.

Agree with you, I do.

But Han is a ~ main character ~

Doesn’t matter. Lando did the right thing and could have saved Han if the other heroes woulda’ let him.
Even if Han died, Lando did the right thing.
If we get to Jedi and Han is complaining “Lando! You risked my life to save hundreds (thousands?) of others! HOW COULD YOU!?” Han would no longer a character I care for at all. Fortunately, that’s not the case.

Well, you are one a the good ones!
But it really is a pet peeve. And most people do seem to think Lando did the wrong thing and should have been punished in some way. Such a shallow reading of what was going on.

Just how the main characters misread it!

Right! But they eventually realized that he was a true hero. Still waiting for the fanbase to do that. 😉

Last thing I watched was a documentary about Tetris. it’s really great!

It’s weird that Han doesn’t even mention it though, let’s be honest.

Valley of the Gwangi – Harryhausen’s effects stand up, and I was able to enjoy the story even though it was pretty standard fare.

Heavy Metal – Lots of naked animated ladies.

The one and only time I watched that movie, I kinda hated it. Loved the effects, but both the humans and the titular Gwangi were such hateful creatures I couldn’t enjoy it.

Heavy Metal – Lots of naked animated ladies.

Sometimes I think Heavy Metal would’ve been better if it had been nothing but naked animated ladies and dropped all pretense of having a plot.

The stories from the magazine the movie is based do have plots, and naked ladies. It’s travesty we’ve never had a proper sequel, or at least a full blown Den movie. Heavy Metal 2000 doesn’t count. 😉

The Cloverfield Paradox

I liked a lot of things about it, the set design, some of the music, the cast; but in the end, it’s a movie about a whole lot of things just happening because parallel universe and there’s not much to hold it all together.

It’s definitely rushed, but it’s very easy to just enjoy it for what it is.

L.A. 2017 (1971) - A movie I’ve wanted to see for a loooong time. Steven Spielberg’s first feature length movie, technically an episode of a show called The Name of the Game, though it works as a standalone movie. That doesn’t mean, though, that it works as a good movie. It’s a pretty basic dystopian future story (well, it’s set in the past now!), that’s hindered by its very obviously low budget. Spielberg’s constrained here, obviously still trying to figure out how to do good work in an environment that just churns out content as fast as possible. D+

Something Evil (1972) - Another Spielberg TV movie, his follow up to what’s probably the best ever TV movie, 1971’s Duel. Which makes this something of a disappointment, as it’s mostly a run of the mill haunted house/satanic possession movie. Once again, Spiels has his hands tied with a weak script and budget/time constraints, but he still gets a few good moments in there. At the very least, it’s pretty watchable. C

Savage (1973) - Spielberg’s final TV film, and another hard one to find. It’s a fairly interesting story about an investigative TV reporter (Martin Landau, always reliable) doing some detective work on a suspected politically motivated murder. Problem is, the movie was actually conceived as a series pilot (though not picked up), and it feels like it (for example, not nearly enough about Savage and the TV side of things, surely saved for later episodes). C

Spielberg (2017) - Been itching to watch this since it came out, finally found the perfect time. A fantastic round up of his life and career. Loved that they didn’t worry about letting it play long, so you actually get some good perspectives on a number of his films. Also surprisingly emotional. I’m glad they did my favorite filmmaker justice with this. A-

Oh, also

The Cloverfield Paradox (2018) - I really dig the variety they got going with these movies, quite an awesome anthology sort of series they’re creating. I love the set up here, I guess I’m a sucker for ‘team of astronauts need to save Earth’ stories. They tear through the story at breakneck speed, more or less to its detriment - not nearly enough time for mind fuckery with the titular paradox and emotional connection with the characters. But still, some of what happens is so off the wall and exciting you can’t help but enjoy it. And the cast is so good that you buy their emotions even if you aren’t personally invested in them. Looking forward to the next one. B

Return of the Jedi- …sidestepping… Han Solo and Lando’s redemption arc

Why would Lando, the guy who saved an entire city and his friends (woulda’ saved Han on the spot if not for a certain wookie and lady) need a “redemption arc”?
It’s a personal peeve that this is so misread by audiences.

I guess I am misreading it then; I suppose even as a kid, it always played to me like he sold them out to Vader. I do see your point though.

Vader keeps changing the deal, remember. Lando sold Luke out. No doubt. But it was to save a city, his friend and his friends friends. He did the right thing.
Then, even after Vader changes all the details, Lando saves everybody’s ass. A true hero!
