So then what did you give up?

As much as I disliked Dubya and was disinterested in watching his State of the Union addresses for policy reasons, I really can not stand listening to Trump for one second. The man infuriates me on a deeply personal level, for more than just policy. I flat out refuse to waste a moment of my time listening to him blow smoke up the asses of his base.

The Democrats would be a more liberal party if the electorate were more liberal.

IMO the positions of both parties have drifted right to attract donors, which are unfortunately worth quite a bit more than voters.

This. Since “Citizens United”, it’s getting harder to distinguish when a politician is trying to attract voters, and when they are trying to attract funding. You’re right it’s more usually the latter, since that generally leads to the former (sadly).

Hasn’t it always been practically impossible to tell?

In many cases, yes. But there’s some “They Live glasses”-style giveaways. Like every time Mr. Environmentalist Al Gore said the words “Clean Coal” during the Presidential debates, he was very clearly angling for Energy Sector funding.

I guess Trump’s embellishment on this term was to aid those unfortunates without glasses.

I felt this last night. For a president to so wildly misrepresent the issues to paint himself in a grandiose manner is gross enough, but to go on about bipartisanship and unity is basically gaslighting, given what has happened in the past year.

You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.

Yeah, I kind of can’t believe I watched the whole thing. Talking about bipartisanship while the Republicans give a standing ovation after every point and the Democrats sit and stare is some real doublethink.

Wasn’t the 8th Commandment on a stone tablet?

So I don’t see the problem here.

Warb, we should want to rehabilitate prisoners. As stone tablets beget books, books beget electronic tablets. Prisoners can have books, so why not tablets? Per the article, they are limited to certain purposes. I saw that Trump spoke of prison reform in the SOTU. Don’t know if he’s serious but it’s a great idea.

The blue elephant in the room.

I know. Trump isn’t serious about anything that doesn’t benefit him directly. So there’s your answer.

In case it’s not clear to everyone, I was making a joke, but I also agree with this.
