A movie review site. It used to be great, but then it went downhill fast. Lots of great reviewers. One of the appeals is the ability to create lists.

I’m glad this got bumped because it summoned Ripplin.

Any specific examples? I haven’t really noticed much difference in my time there, but maybe you’ve been there longer.

Back when it started, it was an invite-only site (I guess kind of like MySpleen) and you had all these great reviewers like Adam Cook and Peaceful Stoner writing all these in-depth analysis. Then, it opened to the public, and now it’s filled with one-liners and pretty generic crap all over, that the quality content is buried.

I don’t really want to name names, but take for instance that brad pitt is now one of the most popular reviewers on the site, and that’s the caliber of content to expect on the front page. There’s also a lot of petty drama between all these “big” names rather than what it was initially, just a bunch of people sharing their love for the medium.

Sorry the experience changed for you. Reminds me of the Buckethead forum buckethead.tk. I used to love that place, and there was a strong core group, but then his song “Jordan” was featured on Guitar Hero 2 and suddenly there was a massive influx of new fans coming to the forum and acting like they knew everything about him, many very young and immature. I hung around for a while, but eventually, most of the old guard left.

I use Letterboxd mostly as a video diary, to review things, and find new things to watch. I look around a bit, and I know there’s a lot of nonsense, but I mostly keep to myself there, so the experience has been pleasant for me, by and large. Most interactions have been positive, but then that’s because I only engage with reviewers that don’t annoy me. Haha.

Does anyone remember who their most watched director and actor were from year to year? Mine were…

2015
Director: Akira Kurosawa
Actor: Charles McGraw

2016
Director: Akira Kurosawa
Actor: James Cagney

2017
Director: Akira Kurosawa
Actor: Wallace Beery

Wasn’t trying for a Kurosawa hat trick, it just sort of happened. 😉

Are we counting rewatches? If so, I definitely don’t have that exact information (although most likely each year would be determined by how many times I watched Star Wars movies). If not, even though I haven’t been on Letterboxd until now, I can try to figure it out…

…at some point.

Although for 2017 it’s probably safe for me to say for director it was David Lynch. And director for 2015 was probably Hitchcock since that year I took a class on him.

I misunderstood the question and I was like “these years don’t line up with the subjects.”

Is it pronounced “Letterbox-d” or “Letterboxed”?

I think you’re supposed to pronounce every letter individually. It’s inspired by xkcd.

Jedit: and don’t capitalize it.

Ceci n’est pas une signature.
