Blade Runner - Director’s Cut.

I had never watched this version before, and I really loved it. I’m pretty sure I prefer it over the theatrical cut. Still haven’t watched the final cut - it’s next on my list.

Which version do you guys prefer?

Final Cut minus the Unicorn dream is perfect in my books. I made my own hybrid that does just that and I’ve never gone back.

This.

Also, don’t expect a dramatic difference with the Final Cut. It’s just the Director’s Cut with more polish. (The DC was made without Scott, but from his notes; Scott himself did the Final Cut.)

What the heck was up with the Unicorn sequence, anyway?

I like it. I think it’s supposed to further the idea that Deckard may be a replicant since unicorns also show up elsewhere in the movie, suggesting it may be someone else’s memory.

And to answer the question. FINAL CUT.

Yeah what the hell was that unicorn, almost as awkward as the cheesy theatrical ending.

Doesn’t the toy unicorn do just that in a less cheesy way?

Edit: ok so I might watch the final cut this weekend, since everyone’s telling me it’s the way to go. Thanks guys!

But does the toy unicorn on its own tell us for sure it has something to do with Deckard? He has the dream about unicorns, and there’s that toy, and the origami. Without the dream, is the unicorn tied explicitly to Deckard?

Hm yeah I guess you have a point. I’ll watch the final cut version with that in mind, maybe it won’t be as out of place as it was tonight.

My thoughts on the unicorn scene:

On it’s own, I actually find it quite beautiful. I feel it is visual imagery for Deckard’s desire to simply break free and get away from the awful reality that is his life, his occupation.

The issue with the scene is that it ties into the Unicorn origami at the end and basically says Deckard is a replicant. I think the interpration that Deckard is a replicant makes the entire movie fall apart on itself.

So again, final cut is a more polished version (cleaned up special effects and so on) of the DC, with one (admittelly beautiful) out of place scene that messes up the films main characters.

Final cut - unicorn scene = sci fi perfection

Bingo.

Without the dream sequence, the origami unicorn at the end is (in my interpretation) Gaff telling Deckard “I’m letting you go, but you’re living a fantasy that can’t be.”

With the dream sequence, it’s Gaff telling Deckard “I know you’re a replicant.” It destroys the ambiguity altogether.

I thought that footage was shot for Legend.

I imagine that the Unicorn’s a recurring dream that Deckard happened to mention to Gaff once. Deckard stays human–or it’s at least ambiguous–and I keep the scene.

It raises the question which is important, I disagree that it answers it.

No, common misconception.

The question is raised pretty explicitly elsewhere in the movie already. The unicorn scene only exists to, at best, tip the scales in favor of “he’s a replicant.”

Just watched The Disaster Artist last week.

I wouldn’t say it was great but, I was definitely amused. It helps if you’ve seen (or at least know about) The Room.

7/10.

DID SOMEONE SAY BLADE RUNNER!??!?

Blade Runner 2049
Holy moly! This was a great film. I had severe reservations about this film, having been disappointed by so many sequels/remakes/re-se-pre-whatever to beloved properties before, but my reservations were unfounded. Even if you don’t like the original Blade Runner, you may like this one.
10 out of 10 amazings

Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World
Watched this for the umpteenth time. Still love it. Would make a great Star Trek film

The Taking of Pelham One Two Three (1974)
Had never seen this before and was thoroughly impressed. For some reason I expected something trashy but what I got instead was tense and gritty.
