Rey kicking Kylo’s butt makes him seem very weak period. Plus there is no plausible explanation. But this thread isn’t the place for this kind of discussion.

Hal I just saw the edit, and HOT DAMN. The dramatic tension was way better in this version to the point that the Starkiller actually mattered to me. All you guys did great work, Wow. I also love R2 searching his database. 😃 Love it.

Having seen The Last Jedi, I thought it might be a good idea to edit the final duel a bit in The Force Awakens. Ren’s wound being in the wrong place is a bit jarring, but more than that, Knowing what’s coming vis Kylo and Rey gave me some ideas.

I think it would be good for the overall narrative for Rey not to kick Kylo’s ass in TFA. The duel should be cut in such a way that there is merely a stalemate, with Rey running and defending herself, until the crevice opens between her and Ren ending in stalemate.

Ren’s temporary scar could easily be explained as “he just got it while leaving the base.”

Rey beating Kylo so easily makes Kylo Ren seem very weak and ill suited to be worthy of his eventual arc in The Last Jedi since no time has passed between films.

If their duel ends in a stalemate, it leaves more room for the ambiguity that arises in the next film’s narrative. George and JJ initially developed Kylo Ren as “Jedi Killer,” not the “Emo Ren” who gets his ass handed to him by a neophyte.

After seeing the Last Jedi, it seems fitting that Kylo and Rey should have a stalemate (by Snoke’s design.)

I think the scar is a deal breaker but this doesn’t pertain to the edit at hand either.

Thanks for the feedback, and I join you in marvelling at how far above V1 these fine people have elevated V2. 😃

To my mind, TFA and TLJ are somewhat like oil and water. They don’t mix together but are both needed for a salad. (That’s not true, but go with it.) I identify it as fruitless for me to try to harmonize them meaningfully. Even so, I’d be more inclined to edit TLJ harder.

The good thing is that TFA:R V2(.1) is/soon-will-be a great launching pad for further alterations to make by other editors.

Maybe even you!

You mean besides the fact that he was severely wounded and bleeding out from a shot to the torso that was previously established to carry enough force to toss multiple troops into the air? And a mental wreck after just murdering his own father?

But you’re right, wrong thread for this discussion.

Not to mention in TLJ Snoke literally explains why this happened (Kylo’s mental state) for everyone who missed it in TFA.

But again, this discussion shouldn’t happen here, or anywhere really, because it’s stupid and pointless.

I probably won’t do a V3, so I don’t want to skimp on this one. This slight line change is worth waiting for.

Until Ep 9 is out and we have a full picture 😛

At this point I seriously doubt anything in IX will contradict Restructured in any way.

Well done Hal, I watched V2 this week just prior to seeing TLJ again and I loved every single minute of it! This really is my “go to” version of TFA now, thank you. The film just works so much better in my opinion with the Starkiller Base stuff towards the climax and I love what you did with R2.

Is their any chance of cropping Chewie out of the hug scene at the end - just the bit where he walks away from the camera, straight past Leia? This is one of the only things that still bugs me about TFA now. It’s only a few frames that would need cropping (or deleting).

Anyhow thanks again Hal and keep up the good work, your effort is always much appreciated.

Lookout for V2.1 coming down the pike within a few days on the normal places. Any links should still function as I merely replace the files to be found there.

AbramPT provided a natural-sounding replacement for the FO tech guy’s line, allowing me to move onto distribution.
I’ll include the lossless wav audio (for nerds) as a separate download, though not in the full-sized release. If anyone wants to edit from this project, use this file to preserve quality, but I couldn’t mux it without the app I use crashing, and I cannot be certain that any lossless audio file I included anyway would be compatible with BR spec. (I was able to create a .w64 file but it could not be muxed in with my tools.) So, I took the safer route. Audio included is 5.1 640kbps AC3, which is perfectly good to my mind for viewing and listening purposes.

Looking for help with this one in advance. Anyone interested in muxing in the lossless audio for us “non-technical folk”? 😃
TFA:R is my definitive version so I don’t mind even if the size goes up to 30+ GB.

Cheers, Papa Hal! You the man!

It should work fine in mkvtoolnix or tsmuxer as long as it’s a .w64 and not a .wav - at least, that’s what I did with v2.0 after converting the .wav to .w64.

Still no clue how to get it to burn to a BD50 and work in a PS4, though I do now have a standalone UHD BR player and haven’t tried it on that (waiting on v2.1 before I waste more discs).

Ash, man, I have absolutely no idea what you’re talking about.

Which part?

HAL said he’ll be providing the lossless audio in PCM format as a W64 file (as WAV has a file size limit). If you open the MKV in either mkvtoolnix or tsmuxer, you can add the W64 file and create a new MKV or a BDMV folder with the lossless PCM audio instead of (or in addition to) the Dolby Digital audio.

As for the other part, I can’t get any of HAL’s projects to burn to a Blu-Ray disc and play without errors in my PS4. Other people have had similar issues, but none of the proposed solutions have worked for me. I’m hopeful that the fact that I now have a standalone player (not a game console) will fix the problem for me.

That actually made sense hahaha. Thanks. Hope the Blu-Ray works now, and new awesome addition to your collection I presume. 😄

The 1080p, DVD5, and TinyEncode versions are now available on all the same channels. The 720p version is encoding now, and should be uploaded to those same places within about 12 hours.

After a somewhat disappointing V1, I’d like to say thank you once again to everyone who contributed to a V2(.1) that is pretty damn great.

Now, onto finishing my last go-round with the prequel trilogy. Then, I’ll be all caught up to see what can be done with TLJ.

Nice! I’ll definitely be jumping on that as soon as I get home (or when I wake up tomorrow morning with a hangover).

I’m not sure I understand what the difference between 2.0 and 2.1 are. Would someone be kind to enlighten me?

I know there’s a new line spoken by a member here, and that Kylo with and without the hood in the same scene was corrected. (With Snoke’s hologram)

Was there a reason that the updated X-wing approach shot wasn’t used?

Ugh, are you kidding me? That’d be my bad. I honestly can’t see the difference, even now, so even though I looked at everything, I did not notice anything there. I’m genuinely good with leaving it as is unless you feel like a substantial improvement is being missed out on.

Dubbed line of dialogue about the weapon being fully RE-charged, improved slowed down FX for some shots, replacing Kylo’s hood with the back of his head, 3PO being heard as he walks away from BB8, and some other audio stuff. All the little things that weren’t done in time for a pre-TLJ release.
