I actually stopped caring for the Marvel movies a long time ago (in a galaxy far far away). But I still love the TV shows (except for Luke Cage and Inhumans, plus I haven’t seen the Runaways). I loved the first Iron Man movie, which was kept pretty “down to Earth”, looked great, had a nice combination of practical and digital effect, great acting, great editing, but it had a stupid absolutely unnecessary villain. The modern movies look like they were all shot in front of a green screen (I wonder why) and mostly try to shove in as much shit from the comics (which I never read or will read) as possible and always end up with a stupid bossfight, and of course a giant laser beam shooting at the sky.

Meant to share this before last week:

Just finished my rewatch of Iron Man (2008).

It’s been a long while since I last revisited the film that started it all. The break was a good one, this is a solid film that still holds up today. It’s funny to realize how much has happened in the last 10 years. The state of cellphone technology, dated social media network references, the scale of fight scenes. The big end battle was such a revelation at the time but is quite a small engagement by today’s standards. The earlier anti-terrorist fights however are still brilliant. Overall, excellent film that started the ball rolling with important character development that has continued on and throughout the rest of the MCU.

Was Ragnarok any good? I ended up not watching that one theatrically, unfortunately. And does anyone know when will the bluray come out?

Yeah I found that some parts of the movie are quite dated, like the “Don’t put this on your MySpace page” line. If it featured a kid like the third movie I’m sure he would have looked like this:

or this:

Not enough people read the EU.

I think the original Iron Man is still the best thing the MCU has ever put out. It feels like a real movie made by a few talented people, not some large, calculated, corporate undertaking.

It was good as an action comedy, but I wasn’t a fan of the complete and utter tonal shift from the first two films.

I agree. The only MCU movie I LOVED. The rest of the movies seem to be OK, some of them more than OK, but there is a huge decline of effects - the last 2 movies I have seen (Guardians 2 and Ragnarok) had absolutely horrible looking effects. The Black Panther trailer looks to be the worst yet, I honestly hope that the scenes in the trailers are just work in progress, but a combination of live actors with a early 2000s video game backgrounds just looks awful.

I miss the wonderful merge of practical and CGI effects of Iron Man 😦

I agree. Iron Man and The Winter Soldiers are definitely my favorites, alongside the first and second Guardians of the Galaxy, and the only ones that I rewatch from time to time. Maybe The Avengers too, but not so much.

Thanks for the info!

I generally like it. Some are better than others of course. Plus my kids like them so we can all go to the movies together.

Guardians of the Galaxy is my favorite. Seeing that at 41 years old was as close as I was going to get at 41 to what seeing Star Wars was like at 4. It was like someone said, “Hey let’s make a movie like Star Wars except less for kids and more for middle-aged men.” 😃

The 2nd Ant-Man movie looks cool. Can’t wait to watch it in the theater.

That’s a little complicated. In the bigger picture, no. Marvel Studios had no hand in the production of this film like they did with Homecoming.

However, it might still be connected to Homecoming’s Spider-man. If it is then this will be the start of a pocket Spideyverse.

Where that Spider-man can crossover and interact with a variety of other characters that are not part of the MCU canon.

But that’s only if Sony does decide to connect them.

If the Venom film’s any good, I hope there is no such connection.

If it’s mediocre/bad, it won’t matter.

They just released an incredibly generic trailer that didn’t show Venom or even the title of the movie.

It’s not going to be good.

Y’know who really deserves his own movie?
