I also think the CGI additions to these films are blatantly out of place. So, if it’s not really necessary, or it doesn’t improve the scene in anyway, I’d cut it out completely.

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

I’d screenshot it and use it as my wallpaper.

That would take too much time. I don’t think he could properly capture your condescending and sarcastic nature.

Don’t know if possible (but could be since Adywan plans to shoot nex scenes): when the rebels get on the ground, show Ewok dead bodies to stress the fact they already are imperial victims.

Seconded

Remove the slapstick Ewok moments during the battle.

I watched Jedi recently with my daughters and the moment that got the biggest reaction from them in the whole movie was when the Ewok hits itself with the bolas. They were rolling around in hysterics.

I know that humour and comedy are often the first casualties of a fan edit, but Adywan I hope that you might be gentle when it comes to snipping away the moments of levity.

Star Wars is a family saga, and us oldies need to be reminded sometimes of the simple moments of comedy or cuteness that delight the young (and the young at heart). Smiles and laughter are part of Star Wars for me, and are one of the reasons why Star Wars works globally regardless of nationality (who knew that Britain’s biggest comedy export of last decade would be Mister Bean - slapstick humour, it’s lowbrow but there’s no denying it’s loved around the world and transcends language barriers). Slapstick and sight gags work globally, and Revisited is for a global audience.

And let’s also remember that the one moment from ESB Revisited that gets the most mentions and praise is the new gag you added, when the AT-AT falls on the Scout Walker. A moment of slapstick that Lucas himself would be proud of.

So be gentle when it comes to removing humour. We need laughter in the world!

Well said and very eloquently. I agree but also agree with what Frink said below. I’d say you do as well but just wanted to remind Ady as to the importance of some levity and humour at times as long as it doesn’t take away from the movie (looks at TLJ):

Any fan project should be for the person making it first and for the rest of the world (globally, as you said) second.

I obviously strongly disagree with the below part of your next post though Matt, but this is already well represented in the respective thread 😉

Thanks Val. On one hand you have someone saying they like the moments of humour and cuteness with the Ewoks, and on the other you have someone saying they’d like to see their dead corpses strung up on Endor.

Whatever Adywan goes with it really is one of those “you cant please all people all of the time” choices!

I’ve noticed something new in ROTJ in that Vader has Luke’s lightsaber during the duel on the 2nd Death Star. It’s never mentioned in the film or referenced to except the novel.

alt text

Apparently after Vader knocked him out of the rafters, he drops his saber and Vader picks it up. Which is why he was hiding under the stairs. He gets it back with the force and the fight continues.

I’ve always just assumed he was meditating or something under those stairs. But this is another change I think would be simple for ROTJ Revisited

I’m sure there’s a missing shot of Luke Force Snatching it out of Vader’s hand.

The easier thing to do would be to take advantage of the terrible crushed blacks of the SE and just erase it from Vader’s hand.

Has there been an article or Reddit post about that lightsaber shot recently? Everyone is discussing it all of a sudden.

Would be better to fix the crushed blacks with an alternate sorce and film a shot of Vaders hand losing the Saber… Just saying but cool find if he actually has lukes light saber that would be a nice little touch.

Wait a minute he pulls his own saber back after throwing it? Or was that Lukes Saber? now this get’s more intriging… there are some good possibilities for this.

How about a saber swap? Double check which one Luke throws away after Vader defeat??? Basically what if Luke defeats Vader with his Lightsaber and vaders lightsaber is green? That could add a very interesting dynamic to the scene

Another nice touch which i will blame duracell energizer for. His forum name relates to a duracell advert in this advert it features darth vader shouting / screaming. Basically i thought this sound Vader makes might work very well when he is electrocuted picking up palps. It might come off comical it might be great. Basically i think it is worth a try even if it is for a laugh.

I read the list again to try and make sure I was treading new ground, and I noticed that you were going to add back in, the old female pilots. While in principle I agree with the idea, have you seen the actual footage? Their acting is just bad. They kept looking at camera, they would say the lines, but not mean them and there was no body language. Now before you said “Existing female pilot to be re-dubbed with a female voice” you also said “Add female pilots” which I’m assuming means there will be new actresses doing the whole thing as well? If so, I would stick to just that, because I’m not sure that just dubbing the old ones will work. And if you aren’t going to re-shoot them then… IDK are bad ones better than no ones??

Anyway if its fixing movie mistakes you want then here’s a few that have been going around for a while:
A) Vader cuts through a railing that is already cut in the final battle.
B) DV’s shuttle arrives, a DS technician’s hand is gloved but when it cuts between shots and he presses a button it isn’t.
C) Jaba’s Drink switch hands when he drags Leia over on the sail barge.
D) Billy D William’s stunt double is wearing black gloves when he is dangling from ropes in during the sarlac scene.
E) They flip the Han/Lando scene on Home One so that Landos badge and strap switch sides.
F) When Leia offers Wicket food it switches hands.
G) One of the Ewoks eyes is missing and you can see the actor when they first meet C3PO
H) A post moves when Luke is talking to Vader on Endor.
All of these are from: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MKe-9TpM7IM
IDK why I listed them instead of just linking it but I’ve done it now.
The only other thing I can think of is the X-rays of DV when he is electrocuted… Its just a bit weird but IDK also endearing maybe make his limbs seem robotic instead of just bone or remove or whatever.

There’s a female pilot in the battle already who speaks with a man’s voice. She’s going to be redubbed, and new pilots will be filmed and added.

Oh really, I didn’t know that. Wow that’s weird. I need to watch ROTJ again.

What about the thing that Luke cuts in half when he cuts Vader’s hand off? It’s already broken before Luke cuts it, but only for a few frames.

Luke pre-planned that because he knew he wasn’t good enough yet to cut it through on the first try.

Hey I’m just suggesting them because they’re there and people have complained about them. I never really noticed that the aliens didn’t blink in the Cantina nor did I notice them start to in the Revisited edition, but that was still added. These are just suggestions that’s all.

You can have female pilots, as long as they don’t get paid the same as the male pilots.

Lol. Don’t forget they also need a long group of scenes showing exactly how they got all their training.

That’s what’s missing from Star Wars, an 80’s training montage to the song “You’re The Best Around”.
