Please tell me that Williams did do the Soundtrack for TLJ.

You are…

CORRECT!

I felt like we didn’t have as many new themes in this one as in TFA, but that the themes introduced in it were used infinitely better in TLJ.

^ Ditto.

I also feel the orchestra they used delivered a better performance than in TFA.

The burden of watching fantastic cinema is having expectations set by said films

I also didn’t find the score to be particularly exciting.

What??

I remember exactly when this happened in the film and it got me fired up.

This is very exciting, yes, though probably a poor example specifically as it is a reprise of the “Tie Fighter Attack” from the original film (also heard in ROTJ), there are plenty of other great examples of exciting music in the film. In fact, while I rate the TFA soundtrack higher, I think TLJ is a lot more exciting.

My rankings:

ESB
ANH
ROTJ-RO
TLJ-TFA
TPM-ROTS
AOTC

I’m still one the fence about TLJ, so this ranking is likely to change after I’ve seen it again.

(I don’t get all the negativity towards RO. I feel like it’s biggest sin was simply not trying to be the best SW movie ever. It was just a simple spin-off story that tried to entertain, and that to me is a rare virtue in modern Hollywood.)

Star Wars is Surrealism, not Science Fiction (essay)

My ranking of the Star Wars Movies so far:

  1. TESB
  2. ROTJ (my guilty pleasure)
  3. SW & TLJ
  4. TFA
    .

  5. RO

The End.

  1. ESB
  2. ANH
  3. TLJ-Loved it. Pissed on TFA and I could not have been happier.I’m actually excited to see where things go from here.
  4. ROTJ- Ewoks are not as bad as I remembered. Leia vs Jaba never gets old.
  5. RO- Weak first half, but that ending is pure SW joy.
  6. TFA- I actually like this film more now that TLJ took it to task. Still hate the clunky Han intro and the rehashed plot, but knowing where things are headed, I can forgive Mary Sue Rey and Janitor/Super Soldier Finn. Kylo seems real now whereas before he felt like Teen Vader for JJ’s Palpatine 2.
  7. ROS- Love George for taking a risk and going balls to the wall. Hard to reconcile the potential with the actual film.
  8. TPM- Fan edits help, but still hurts my heart to think of the how badly so many great ideas were wasted. Unlike most, I like the trade embargo angle and the stalled senate.
  9. AOC- Like sand in your pants.

It’s not terribly important, but just to point out - this is the rate TLJ thread. We have another thread for ranking all the SW films.

I’m just talking about the music.

I’m just realizing I haven’t actually rated this yet. I give it an A-/B+. The only place where it loses points for me is that I believe it’s a little over-stuffed. Given the story they were telling I think it probably had to be that way, and it didn’t bother me as much the second time I saw it, but I do think there was a certain elegance to the spareness of TFA that I kind of missed here.

Sorry, rating and ranking are not similar? I’m not sure, since english is not my first langauge.

fuck fuck fuck fuck. I inadvertently clicked on the spoiler thread when I meant to click on the non-spoiler thread and didn’t realize my mistake until I read a spoiler. fuck.

Which spoiler was it?

I know I’ve made some very poor decisions recently.

Rating is a number score for a movie, like 7/10. Ranking is putting several movies in order.

I had to drink several Manhattans to sit through this god-awful movie.
0 out of 4 stars. A total abomination. The worst Star Wars movie I have ever seen.

  1. The Empire Strikes Back
  2. Star Wars
    (gap)
  3. Return of the Jedi
    (gap)
  4. The Force Awakens
  5. Rogue One
    (gap)
  6. The Phantom Menace
    (gap)
  7. Revenge of the Sith
  8. Attack of the Clones
    (gap)
  9. The Last Jedi

I did not think it was possible for a Star Wars movie to be worse than Attack of the Clones, but there it is.

Sounds to me like you drank all those Manhattans before sitting down to watch the movie…

But don’t mind me, I’m just a stupid person with ADHD.

Oh and welcome to the site.

Lol.

I’d give it a C+ personally. It’s weird that it’s fun in the moment, but it feels worse in my head once I leave the cinema.
