Ugh, I wish I could remember which thread on which message board pointed out that there are 2 different door slam sounds. Who knows, maybe you’re right and they’re the ones that all got it confused. Considering the research you’ve put into this (and my faded memory), I’ll take your word for it. Actually makes me feel better to put a bit of closure on this. The real closure will be when they officially release the film with it’s proper original sound (I can dream, right?).
Here’s another example. Judging from the image this video looks to be ripped from the DVD and the subtle audio differences I noted in the comparison video are present here as well. The uploader also gives credit to MGM. The correct door slam is here too.

Pretty much all the new sound effects added to the Terminator surround mix sound very modern and IMO very out of place in a 1980s film. Even ‘80s films with good surround mixes used sound effects that were of their times. Not so much with the Terminator remix.

The mono is available on the Region 1 DVDs. If not try messaging the original poster of this thread to see if he still has the synced Laserdisc track. If that doesn’t work and you have a MySpleen account there’s already an .mkv of the Blu-ray synced to the LD track over there. Also you mentioned a few posts back that you’re making your own mono mix. If you’re making a mono mix using the mono sound effects how is that gonna work?? Is this a mono mix of the mono mix or a mono mix with the effects from the surround mix?? Elements of both?? Again just asking out of curiosity and like I said I’ll provide whatever tips I can.

I have to compare but it’s possible the Image Entertainment DVD has a mono that was a tad crisper than the LD. Comparing the portions in the comparison video I posted the other week ago to the ripped DVD file I have saved on my computer the ripped file was slightly crisper. However there’s likely compression factors I need to take into consideration so again I gotta look into this.
I keep hoping the new Cameron-Miller T film might get us some sort of release that finally rectifies this horrible mistake.

Machine gun fire in the background when he runs to the door is missing on the MGM mono.
- When the Terminator cuts the power in the Police station, the sound of the emergency lights coming on is much louder on the MGM mono.
- A bit hard to notice but it sounds like some noise is missing when Reese rams the officer into the door of the interrogation room before knocking him out. The standard mono and 5.1 sound mostly identical in this instance.
- ‘Clinking’ noise when it cuts to Sarah crawling underneath Traxler’s desk to hide is present on MGM mono.
- On the standard mono, the sound of the Terminators motorcycle cuts in about a second before the fadeout to Reese and Sarah’s love scene cuts to the Terminator on the bike. On both the MGM mono and the 5.1 mix, this doesnt happen and the fadeout to the love scene just cuts to the Terminator on the bike.
- After Sarah goes ‘No! Kyle!’ but before she says ‘Come on!’ when he momentarily collapses after powering up the machines at Cyberdyne, on the MGM mono we can clearly hear a bang at the door (Terminator trying to get in). This is only faintly heard on the standard mono.

I don’t believe the glass shattering into Cyberdyne was changed.where the sound effets for the machines in cyberdyne changed too?
Some of them. The compactor is different. You mentioned this mix you’re making combines the mono and surround mix. May I ask how you intend to do this if you don’t have the mono sounds to use?? Me clarifying what was changed and what wasn’t isnt really gonna help.
i use youtube videos. this is my very first film im editing. i dont wish to bother you but some of the videos of the mono sounds are not on youtube, i do not own the mono DVD but i do own the VHS from the 80’s. im not a professional. i hope im not getting you upset.
