I feel like people that don’t like TFA or Rogue One are being treated like trolls. There seems to be little distinction between users that have legitimate and clearly articulated gripes and people that bitched constantly and rudely about how they’re the worst things ever.

well, there is a third category, a user who for the first time mentions a gripe they have, but the rest of us have heard that gripe a hundred times and know that the gripe is not actually legitimate, because it stems from a misunderstanding of something that actually happened in the film. Sadly for the rest of us, it is hard to know when this third category happens, so we often react as if someone is trolling.

This is the kind of attitude I’m talking about. It reminds a lot of prequel fans on TFN.

Sadly for the rest of us, it is hard to know when this third category happens, so we often react as if someone is trolling.

It’s very clear when someone is trolling or being intentionally provocative.

Perhaps the trolls are so loud that one’s (valid) argument against the films can in a way sound in support of the trolls’ (supposed) opinion? I think also, given the travesties that are the official prequels, that putting the modern releases below the prequels is difficult to accept or identify with.

Or perhaps people who don’t allow said distinction are also trolls.

Not always. Tone and inflection are lost in plain text. It’s not just what you say but how you say it, and the “how” can be lost or ambiguous when reading it. When you read a post, you add your own inflection to it in your mind which may not have been the inflection the poster used. Hence the confusion in conversations many have around here.

i think the only real answer is that everyone decides for themselves. which sorta has the net effect of it seeming to be a mob mentality.

You’ll never be an official Mini-Frink with that attitude.

And people who like the prequels are somewhat trolled by the regular members here as well. I like fanedits of them and I don’t care how funny you all think that is.

This is an excellent point.

I am currently intensely aggravated towards the general human populace at the moment. I wish I had decent, rational people nearby to help numb the feelings I have when I witness stupidity.

What stupidity did you witness, if you don’t mind my asking?

Well, it’s at least a bit funny.

I spent years trying to convince myself that the prequels could be fixed or saved by fanedits. Eventually I gave up.

And sure, they can be improved, but that’s a very low bar.

It’s funny that some people like things that you don’t?

I guess that’s another case of knowing ones audience. People generally don’t enjoy openly being derided for liking things.

Condemning the source material, sure. My sister likes several TV shows I can’t see the appeal for. But she probably wouldn’t like it if I laughed in her face about it.

I just have very little in common with people my own age and it is increasingly frustrating. I don’t seem to have much in common with people of different ages either. No one just makes sense to me, and the people who do are dead or middle-aged comedians.

I seem to have more in common with people younger than me. I have marginal amounts in common with people my age, and little to nothing with people who are older.

My wife is 3 and a half years younger, for example; and her brother, who is again 3 years younger than her, would be an interesting person to talk to if he wasn’t a bitter, unmitigated jerk. People who are my sister’s age (who is 3 years older), are quite alien to me.

I happen to disagree. Sure they will never reach out the level of the Anh or Esb but at least they can be worth watching.

I happen to disagree.

Also, Warb decreed that I determine what is legitimate and I find this to be not.
