Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD - V2.7 - MKV (Released) — Page 634

Guys - I could use some help - I remember some time ago, someone was working on a shotlist for the SW movies and I can’t find it. But what I’d really need is someone helping me catalogue all the shots that need despecializing and making a system that will make it easier for me to keep track of the shots and what they need done.
My idea is this table, where I could keep track of the progress on all the shots:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1NwFnvrRp3CnyDOdr9W1__8PLBGwH8WOKkl8mjke8LQs/edit?usp=sharing

So, would I find volunteers, who would help me by going through Doubleofive’s galleries and putting all the shots down in this table and looking them up in GOUT and BD and putting in the timecodes?

When this is done and I start working on v3.0, the plan is to keep the table public, so you guys can check on my progress and every once in a while, when all shots in a sequence have status Pending Final, I want to post the sequence as a work-print and only after I get positive feedback on it, I will mark the shots as final.

This will make you guys more involved again, like in the old times, and it should help keep me more motivated. 😃

I don’t think that’s such a good idea - I think I need maximum one volunteer per reel, so they can keep track of the shot numbers and such - random people working on it randomly could end up pretty chaotic.
But mainly, the idea was to make it public for viewing but not for editing - the internet is unfortunately full of assholes, so it wouldn’t surprise me at all that if the table was public for editing, someone would intentionally sabotage it just for fun. 😕

Sounds like a nice idea. And I agree. Make it public and you’ll spend more time reverting vandalism than updating it.

There is a table that I believe was made by “none” that could be of some use?

Also, does this mean you’re skipping straight to 3.0 for ESB now? Might make sense, since all the new work is 1080p anyway.

I still want to do ESB 2.5 but probably will just make it a quick update, changing just the most problematic shots.

On another note, are you going to be using 4k77 as a source? It seems like there might not be too many shots that you need the raw 35mm for, once that is out. Just a bit more cleaning (those guys are working hard, but it’s easier to get nearer to perfect when you aren’t cleaning 2 hours of film), grain management, etc.

Yeah, I’m definitely hoping to - I just have no idea when that will be out.

I would greatly appreciate being able to help in any way I can, if needed.

I’d definitely help out with that if needed as well. I think I know what shot list you’re talking about, I’ll see if I have it saved somewhere.

Edit: Is this what you’re looking for? I’m not 100% sure if this is what I was thinking of.

Thanks - that’s exactly the spreadsheet I was looking for. Though looking at it, I’m not sure how much use it would be in this.
Either way - thank you for volunteering - once we have a couple more volunteers, I’ll write up some more detailed instructions and send them to the volunteers in PM, along with a link to an editable version of the spreadsheet.

Hi Harmy,

I’m volunteer if I can help in any way.
I am more a specialist of TPM, but I should be happy to give some of my free time to your project.

Perhaps strangely, I’m honestly more excited about this announced possibility of an improved ESB dropping sooner than I am at seeing the ball start to roll on the 3.0 trilogy…

Looking forward to all of it. Thanks as always, Harmy.

At one point, the TN1 Grindhouse release was being used to improve certain shots for ESB v2.5. Is that still the case, or is the plan to wait for poita’s ESB scans (whether SE or OT) to be finished and use those?

I already got some scans from Poita and I’m waiting for more. I might use some footage from Grindhouse for patches where needed but a big chunk of it is plagued by this red flashing that becomes much more obvious when the colors are corrected, so that makes it pretty much unuseable as a primary source.

It could be either of these.

No pressure, eh?

I don’t have a master list of changes already unfortunately, so I can’t get it kick started. But once the list is done, I’d love to utilize it to track which ones I’ve already shared on the @starwarsviscomp twitter.

I’m going to research getting an export from my Google Photo albums to give us a baseline.

EDIT: I’m not having much success in the export to spreadsheet department. I would like to ask that the final spreadsheet have the names of the actual JPGs too, for my uses.

Yes they were trying to get 4K77 out this month, but didn’t want to rush it, so they just set January 29th as their new target date.

What exactly is the significance of the GOUT audio? I’ve heard about people syncing the Silver Screen Edition to the GOUT audio and I was wondering what exactly the reason for that is. Is the GOUT soundtrack the original soundtrack of Star Wars?

Author

^ No. There’s nothing special about the GOUT audio in and of itself. Syncing to the (NTSC) GOUT simply provides a standard frame of reference and enables audio and subtitle tracks to be swapped between releases.
