Should I watch TFA Restructured v1, or wait for v2?

Wait for v2. v1 has the concept right, but v2 will have every little tweak needed to make it work so as to replace the original theatrical cut.
I’m also quite thrilled about coming fanedits that are going to use V2 as the base !

Hmm alright, I’ll try to wait. I’m going to watch TFA before I watch TLJ next week.

😄 First I cobbled together a replacement background using frames from the movie and some painting. I then inserted that background over the original shot and made it follow the camera movement, and added new film noise over it to match the rest of the shot. I then cut out the unnecessary bits of the replacement background so it only covers Kylo Ren and a little bit of background and leaves Hux intact. This is how I did the timecode removal for the deleted scenes as well, even though that was more complex.

DAMN! You truly are an amazing Space Wizard Video Editor!

Anyone know what file format would be most compatible with BluRay for lossless audio? The PCM track I generated is in the form of a QuickTime .mov.
Is a .wav file muxed with the film going to work with BluRay format?

So, I know it’s too late for V2. But I think I’ve solved the Chewie problem for V3, check it out! 😉

LOL! Then Harmy can make a DESPECIALIZED version of TFA.

Cheers for the mention Hal. Didn’t think I contributed apart from giving a bit of hopefully constructive feedback and my perspective on a few matters. The people to take all the credit are of course yourself and those brilliant editors and FX people at the top of your list of mentions that put some solid time and effort into this project.

So a big THANK YOU to you all again:

-Hal9000 (project lead and final editor) - did I get that right? 😛

-NeverarGreat (Visual and audio effects)

-Sir Ridley (Visual and audio effects)

-Jackpumpkinhead (Visual effects)

-Sherman (Cover artwork)

-MalàStrana (English and French subtitles)

I can’t wait to watch v2 (hopefully before TLJ but don’t stress man 😉 ). Just actually finished watching R1 for the second time (first time since the cinemas) and so very much in SW mood at the moment. I already liked the movie but really enjoyed it the second time round and think it’s a great addition to the SW universe despite a couple of minor issues (pretty much the oversimplified convenient lever pulling plot devices at the end).

I find R1 actually adds a lot of extra detail and depth to the established OT lore without being in your face while also being a little more grounded in realism rather that the force automatically solving everything. I’m not sure why it gets such a hard time around here, I find it to be a great movie and really buy into the characters and the struggle.

Anyway, getting a bit of topic there…thanks again Hal and everyone else for all your hard work and I look forward to checking out the finished edit.

i think all of my contributions have been nixed for the newest version of the edit, so if you wanna take me off of the list that is fine. i was happy to help with what i did.

Good news and bad news.

Bad news: The PCM audio is giving me trouble so I am going to exclude it for now, but it will be available as a separate download.

Good news: The BD50 version should be available for download in just about one hour’s time.

It is time… to watch this edit !

Congrats to everyone. It’s been very fun to follow the progress of the project with the new ideas popping here and there and the mock concepts to feed the interest all along. I never went back to the theatrical cuts of the PT after watching Hal’s versions; I’ll never go back as well to the original TFA cut with this impressive v2 (the “fanedit sfx department” is to get special praised, thanks guys !).

Agreed that Neverar, Ridley and Jack definitely deserve some praise. I would love to see your process on some of these changes. I know there are some resources available already, but maybe when you guys are working on your own edits, you’d be willing to record the process of doing some fx work. Or show us how you guys learned to do these things, if you’re self-taught or whatever. I personally want to learn how to do fx on that level, but I also think these skills can really make a big difference as far as what this community could be capable of.

Huh, my download says it will take 2-3 days. Something’s weird with that.
JEDIT: I think I solved it.
JEDIT2: Nope, it failed. Restarting, again says 2-3 days. The previous method relied on downloading it to the desktop app, which allowed for a fast speed but failed probably when it exceeded the maximum space allowed (15gb for a free account).

You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.

I did a quick preview of it, at least viewing the first minute or so then at the credits. From those quick glances & listening the audio sounds good on the computer. The file size I have is 30.5 GB.

Just watched it and wow, that was amazing. It made TFA not into a masterpiece, but a really enjoyable movie! Thank you all so much for making this happen.

There are some (tiny) things that could be improved in a possible future version, but overall it’s really seamless. I don’t think I’d have noticed any edits if I hadn’t known about them. Honestly, I’m not even sure if I catched all.

So once again: Thank you very much.
