Alright, I wanted to get this out before I called it a night but my computer was acting up so I didn’t have any time to make it pretty, but here’s a very rough idea of what could be done with the music:

That’s pretty cool. Which cue is that? I like the part from 0:13 and after. I think before that the Snoke music could stay as it is. And then maybe the new cue could come in slightly earlier so the brass part begins after “once and for all” but before “prepare the weapon”.

By the way, I’m editing the audio for the deleted scene now, it’s going well.

It’s subjective, of course, but that line doesn’t really work for me. Feels off in delivery and wording.

Fair enough, but I think there needs to be some acknowledgement there that the republic is taken care of. The way your current version launches right into talk of firing at the resistance feels too quick, there’s no bridge.

Just watched it and I agree with Ridley. Also, excellent Ridley with your task!

The music is just what was in the scene that got taken out (Torn Apart, although the first half is from the OST and isn’t in the film). The problem, I think, with the Snoke music is that it kinda kills the pacing.

As for the end of it, I made a point to line up the cue with where it lands in the film itself (so that when we cut back to Rey and Finn you can pretty much just use the original audio). Coincidentally, this lined up perfectly with the beginning of the cue that just followed the original audio from before we cut away to Snoke.

If there was some way to shorten this scene I think there’s another, possibly better way the music could go.

A very good one. Definitely useable.
But for the love of mercy; remove Finn’s horrible reaction when Rey says “he’s with the resistance”. We, as the audience, has gotten the fact that he’s not, clarified three times already. It is a silly reminder, and it kinda dumbs down his character as well as the laughable guilty face.

That might be another beyond-the-scope-of-this-edit idea, but you’re not wrong IMO.

It’s not really the purpose of the edit to add or remove character moments unrelated to the Starkiller Restructure, but I always read this exchange as Finn almost ready to admit that he wasn’t a part of the Resistance, at least until they were distracted and he changed his mind.

Yeah I thought that was pretty clear. I don’t know why people keep requesting completely random, subjective removals when it’s been clearly stated a number of times that that is not what this edit is about.

Neverar great job with the jump v2. It’s like it was suppose to be there in the first place! 😉

Because with any fanedit, one would think the overall idea - whatever its main purpose is - is to improve upon what was before? Therefore, I think such suggestions of short scale - but with important impact on character in a positive light - should be allowed to be mentioned.

However, this is not my thread and I fully respect if there is no intention on improving character or story moments, except for this one with the Starkiller Base. It is an intruiging concept already, in good hands.

Nothing wrong with suggestions, people voicing them are good since it gives the project leader some thoughts or points that he/she may agree with and implement them.

Anyway, if there is to be more work down the road with this project, such as a V3, an aspect I liked about Digmod’s edit was the removal of Finn in the TIE shooting the troopers on the deck. He JUST decided to leave the order and his comrades. Would a person that quickly attack and kill his fellow troopers that quickly?

Later on after some time, and being chased by the order on Jaku by trooper and TIES, now it would make more sense for him.

My personal thought … well, obviously first done by Digimod!

It’s just like people making suggestions to adywan after he’s said he’s not taking anymore - it’s very tedious and bogs down the discussion with irrelevant posts that will always receive the same response… “that idea is beyond the scope of this edit.”

Author
Time

And if I’m not mistaken, a major goal of this edit is to provide a base for people who like the restructuring idea to make their own edits of the film without having to do all the tedious restructuring work themselves. Hence, only things that support the restructuring itself are being done here - anything beyond that is up to other editors (like Neverar’s Starlight project, which uses Restructured as a jumping off point).

Great! So since Ridley has pretty much completed his incredible work on the Leia deleted scene, and the opening crawl text has been decided on, does that only leave Ridley’s Maz’s castle scene, and possibly this Snoke scene?

From what I’ve gathered we still need Ridley’s exported crawl and Maz’s castle.
Apart from that the Snoke scene of course, but other than that I can’t think of anything super essential that’s still MIA.

It would be good to have a hard deadline for V2, if only because some people might like to make plans to see this before TLJ 😉

If V2 could be ready by the 10th I’d be a very happy camper. 😄 (I’m planning a TFA viewing party that night.)

Author

What I’ll deliver:
• Crawl (finished, needs rendering)
• Maz’s castle (needs minor audio tweaks and rendering)
• Deleted scene audio (finished, needs rendering)

And if needed I’ll help out with the new Snoke scene.

Did I forget anything?

These things can probably get done in time to finish V2 before TLJ, we shall see.

Author
Time

Yes, that’s everything I have on my list that I still need. I’d also like to get this out ahead of TLJ. Ideally, it’d be the final version, but it’d be foolish to say that until seeing what TLJ provides us. (I know my life will be radically different after my wife and I have our first child in February.)

I’d say for the Snoke scene, the only thing we’d need is to have the first shot, made to look like Hux is standing there rather than Ren. (If possible; I don’t know how you pull off graphical wizardry like this.) I will try out DominicCobb’s idea for the music for this scene either tomorrow or Saturday.

Once all the ingredients are present, I will hustle to get it put together and encoded.

My stance on revising fan edits.

I think that’s a reasonable deadline if we’re planning on getting something together before TLJ. SirRidley, if you don’t think you can get all of the things finished by then I’m sure we could find a stopgap solution for a December 10th release and put the rest in the next version (if it comes to that).

Just wanted to say thanks for all of the work you guys have put into this edit over the past several months (especially Hal, SirRidley and Neverar). While I know all three of you would make different choices for you personal edits (looking forward to them as well!), it is really cool to see this level of collaboration on a project.

Also, congratulations Hal! Don’t know if you had mentioned that on here before, but that’s exciting news! Really happy for you!
