Hey Althor, have you captured the “For those who remember… one last time” trailer that’s on the Star Wars Faces ld’s? Looking for a high quality version of that for a project I’m working on.

Preferred Saga:
1/2: Hal9000
3: L8wrtr
4/5: Adywan
6-9: Hal9000

Strangely, I do not own the “faces” trilogy with the exception of esb which came as an extra with one of the laserdisc players I purchased. Is this trailer on any other release? The DC perhaps?

Luke threw twice…maybe.

I don’t know about any other region, but in the US, that trailer was only on the VHS Faces release, not the LD.

I believe you may have the wrong thread for your query.

Well I wasn’t even planning on posting here. Was just browsing through the thread trying to find a link to some scripts I posted awhile back when my daughter ran along and decided to touch the mouse and double post for me 😃. Anyhow, since I can’t delete this I guess I can announce that an updated 480p version of Star Wars (1130-80) is now up on the spleen.

Both I guess. It has been denoised. This was necessary due to the rot. Especially side one. Otherwise, I didn’t do much to it.

on the jsc bd25 why did you use the gout audio and not the pcm audio off of the laserdisc

Author

I don’t really remember. I believe at the time I didn’t have a good way of capturing the audio and was probably not aware of schorman’s laserdisc audio archive.

Question for all you Star Wars laserdisc peoples: Did any of you happen to notice any difference between the first two time-compressed P&S laserdisc releases of Star Wars? The first one is the Fox release from 1982, while the second is the CBS/Fox release from 1983 (both with the same catalog number of 1130-80). There was also a third time-compressed P&S release in '92… which is definitely different from the first release at least (different P&S transfer and maybe pitch correction applied too)… but I don’t have a copy of the second release to compare against them. I would download these versions to check and see, but my hard drives are stuffed full right now.

The second release is the only US release of Star Wars I’m missing from my collection and I’m trying to convince myself that I don’t need to buy it 😉

Love the fact that you’re preserving these Althor! Once I get some space on my drive I’ll have to grab these as backups for the sad day when my players die.

They are from the same master. Some pressings may have different cbs/fox intro graphics.

If I had some gum, I’d chew a hole into the sun…

Greetings.

When registrations on myspleen will be open?
Did someone can send me invitation, please? Thanks.

Wrong thread. And by all accounts myspleen is staying closed.

Do you still have the Gout Sync notes for RotJ Special Widescreen Collection? Color matching and was hoping to skip searching for the inserted black frames. (Actually, would be nice to have those notes for all releases you’ve done. Could even be used in reverse to quickly locate all additional frames available.)

3: L8wrtr
4/5: Adywan

Except the accounts of the actual administrators of myspleen that I consulted. Myspleen as a fact is not closed for good.

Wait, what? The MySpleen admins said they’d reopen invites? That’s news to me.

Yeah cool doesn’t change the fact that this was the wrong thread in August and it’s the wrong thread now.

Yep, check your PM’s, and Possessed, you said something about it here so I decided to also…

I’m still curious on which sources have extra frames (per your notes, since your final releases have them removed for GOUT-Sync), but am pretty happy with a script I found on Doom 9 for the process of detecting your inserted black frames.

#Specify the name and location of the output file
filename = “e:\output_black_frames_rotjswe.txt”

#Specify the threshold that will be considered black (0 = pure black)
global blankthreshold=16.1 #24 seems to be a reasonable number for black frames sourced from analog

AVISource(“D:\ROTJ\rotj.avi”).killaudio()

#Only look at half the fields (speeds up processing, though if you remove selectodd, it should help locate
#any half frames)
i=separatefields.selectodd.ConvertToYV12()

#Write the frame number
WriteFileIf(last, filename, “(AverageLuma(i)<blankthreshold)”, “current_frame”, append = false)

Preferred Saga:
1/2: Hal9000
3: L8wrtr
4/5: Adywan
6-9: Hal9000

Regarding extra frames. I don’t have any of the scripts on the HDD anymore but I think I did reference it somewhere here in this thread. I believe it was 1 or 2 of the PAL releases and it was only ROTJ that had extra frames. There might have been 1 release that had the extra frame of the guy waving his hands while directing the droid into the back of the x-wing in the hangar in SW but I honestly can’t remember which release that was.

Regarding the black frames inserted to maintain gout-sync. Those were digitally created and should be entirely black. Also, I applied the limiter plugin to all encodes which sets the lowest pixel value allowed to 16, so with the script above you could probably set the global blankthreshold variable to 17 and extrapolate the missing frames from my various laserdisc releases. The black frames that should be in the film would contain dropouts/analog noise and should have a higher threshold.

This is fantastic work! Are there any plans for capturing the Definitive Collection and The Faces Trilogy? These are the highest quality LaserDisc rips I’ve ever seen for any movie, and it would be great to have them all in the highest quality possible.
