An ad for The Last Jedi came on during the world series game and I had to explain the timeline to dad so he’d understand that Rogue One is way before TFA, Rey isn’t Jyn, and Poe isn’t Cassian.

He’s a fan of the porg, though.

Why did this actually need to be explained?

I’ve talked to several people who weren’t clear on where Rogue One was supposed was supposed to be in the timeline. When I explain that it’s right before Star Wars, they say “oh yeah, ‘Many Bothans died to bring us this information.’” “No… That quote is from Return of the Jedi.” “Oh.”

Seriously, both my parents and my wife’s uncle misplaced that quote.

Because not everyone is a Star Wars fan.

I kinda wish the characters from R1 were the characters from TFA. The series could use some disjointed surrealism like that.

Says the guy who just realized that Star Wars (a fun adventure series for all ages) isn’t some deep-thinking art film

You’re confusing disenchantment with realization.

and is disappointed to realize that the Goosebumps books (written to give children the slight heebee-jeebee’s) don’t give a grown man nightmares.

LOL. The only disappointment I have with those dumb books is that the original cover artwork’s never been collected in a giant-size art book.

They’re usually one and the same. First comes realization, then disenchantment.

I also think my post came off hateful more so than my intended playfulness, so I apologize if that’s the case.
You know I love ya!

You’re not wrong, though. I’ve been too much of a curmudgeon when it comes to ROTJ lately; I’m starting to sound as bad as Impscum or Alderaan when they bitch about Disney.

I’ve been too mired in Star Wars lately – too much time spent ruminating on personal canon, too much re-writing. I need to just unplug myself from all that fanboy garbage and get away from SW until I’m able to evaluate the series as-is from a more objective POV.

The first Scream was enough for me.

Wouldn’t it have been really cool if Vader’s rampage scene had been in slow-mo with Adagio for Strings playing? I’m surprised no one on YouTube has come up with that kind of an idea and posted a video of it.

Oof that sounds much worse. The best part of that scene is the abject terror of the Rebels…doing that would suck the emotion right out of it.

I guess what I meant to say is that the Vader rampage scene in slow-mo with Adagio for Strings playing would be a fun alternative way of doing that scene that someone could come up with on YouTube. I do need to make myself more clear.

It makes me a little sad that my three year old has begun pronouncing BB-8 correctly. He used to get so excited and shout, “it’s Baby-Eat!” whenever he saw one.

Nick Gillard apparently wanted his character in ROTS to have a yellow lightsaber, but Lucas refused to let him have one.

Good.

As soon as green was introduced in ROTJ, all other colors should have been up for grabs. It’s actually super irritating to me that all the Jedi in the prequels have blue and green…and then there’s Sam Jackson with his purple glow stick, but no yellows, oranges, whites, or different shades of blue, green, or purple anywhere to be seen.

At least TCW somewhat rectified this by giving Ahsoka a yellow-green one when she upgraded to dual-wielding, and the Temple guards got yellow ones. And then there’s the Darksaber, and Rebels gave Ahsoka white ones.

Still hoping for Rey to get a yellow one in VIII or IX.

Kenner had a thing for yellow sabers even if George didn’t. 😉

I actually hate the RGB lightsaber colour scheme myself. Still, in a trilogy where a limited palette was already established, I would’ve hated to have seen a nobody character played by the worst lightsaber choreographer get his own unique lightsaber colour when more important characters never did.

And I’d personally like to see Rey get a teal or orange lightsaber, myself.

Oh, it would’ve been dumb as fuck for Gillard to be the only one with yellow, just as it’s dumb as fuck for Jackson to be the only one with purple. But it should’ve stayed red and blue only, or been opened up to the whole spectrum.

I’d be cool with teal or orange for Rey, as well, actually. But I have a soft spot for yellow sabers for some reason. Much like Kenner in the 70s and 80s. 😉

In the pre AOTC EU pretty much all colours were up for grabs, which I think was pretty cool. I’d like to see a fan edit that gives all the prequel Jedi in AOTC and ROTS a variety of colours instead of just blue and green.

Not enough people read the EU.

Rey should get an orange or yellow one, that would be good. Like Yun in Dark Forces II. The whole toy line thing is weird and amusing though, like they kept getting it wrong in new ways. I think RetroBlasting did a bit on them.
