Indication of twelve Star Wars episodes on an old soundtrack album cover?

I have a recollection that there was the indication of twelve potential Star Wars ‘episodes’ somewhere on the cover of a vinyl soundtrack album for one of the original trilogy films. Is this an urban legend or is there something to it? I was so sure it was a thing that I even remembered seeing a scan of one such album cover somewhere on the web confirming it, but after a brief search I have come to doubt the veracity of this memory…

Maybe it was in the liner notes? I’d pull my old vinyls out if I could get at them.

I had the vinyls of all three soundtracks and I think I would have remembered them saying something like that. Maybe there was more than one edition though.

Interesting video, though doesn’t it in fact confirm 13 movies, not 12? This advert from 1979 is speaking in the knowledge that Star Wars is already out two years beforehand and says “GL and 20TH CF have plans for twelve more block-busting chapters to the Star Wars story”.

It’s weird because I remember hearing over the years once the PT started that there were plans for 9 movies all up, then it was 12 and of course a couple of years before TFA, it was only ever meant to be 6 movies…yeah, sure George, whatever you say George…dickhead.

George did say nine in the old making of ESB book during production, which would have been 1979. So yeah, it probably varied depending on the day he was asked about it.

Lucas wanted 12 SW movies all together, 9 that were marked as episodes and the other 3 spin off.

No comments on the 13 SW movies? Does anyone think there was something there or is it just a “George strikes again” or a simple marketing mistake?

A little bit of both?

Mark Hamill said at the dvd press conference back in 2004 that when he first signed on it was going to be twelve movies.

What is your source on this? There is a lot of misinformation on the internet so I have to be careful about these things.

I agree it does imply 13, I think that may have just been Kenners interpretation; but he is always bait and switch so who knows. I blame his issues with Gary Kurtz and his divorce for the lack of SW films released to date.

Who is the more foolish, the fool, or the one who follows him?
